Non-American YouTubers will start paying US Taxes

YouTube is not on the way out and will not be anytime soon. There will always be newer and/or younger people who get their turns and replaces the older and formerly famous Youtubers who are either felt enough, losing sparks, had their followers shrinking because of lost interest in their latest entries, or just plain cancelledT for being problematic.

I mean, look at YT 10 years ago and now, so many power shift happened.

Michelle Phan is not the IT beauty vlogger anymore, it was Nikki Tutorials and few others. Grav3yardgirl is not the IT toy product reviews anymore, it was Ryan Kaji. And that pedo, Shane, throne is now replaced by David Dobrik. And so on. And this cycle will happen again and replaces these current relevant names with another ones. Only a few of the OG YouTubers that are still going strong such as GMM, and deservedly so cos they bring in content. And that is really is the name of the game, content. And most importantly, a quality content.

I work in the US and I pay 22% income tax. And due to my filing status (single, no dependents, etc) that's on the higher end (I don't get tax breaks but I do get a ton of it back when tax season comes).

So will these people need to file with the IRS every year? How can they do that when they're not citizens? Is the money just straight up being taken with no consideration of anything beyond "you make money, we take money"? They're literally just having wages taken because they're getting ad revenue from an American corporation. Even though a lot of those ads are probably from foreign companies and/or geared towards foreign viewers.

I wouldn't be working as a ✨ professional YouTuber✨ if 70% of my money was being taken tbh. This whole thing seems messy and confusing.

Honestly the algorithms used to be better. Id get relevant suggestions but with a certain degree of randomness and unexpected flaire

 

Now they are too fine tuned. Always the same videos and channels.

 

Im like bruh, if u make the suggestions so perfectly in tune with my patterns the suggestions become a useless feature cuz they are just a copy of what im already doing. For suggestions to be useful the algorithms need to be less perfect otherwise they are pointless. I dont need a mini-me AI

Sorry for the confusion. It’s not 30% for US tax, but 24% actually. And It’s only income earned from American viewers. The creator dashboard on the YouTube profile breaks everything down for the user.

But since US viewership has one of the highest CPM’s (money earned per 1k views), they make up most of any English speaking YouTubers income (70-80% in my case I think, I’ll have to double check).

If I was from a country with no tax treaty with the US, Google would just automatically take 24% of the income I earned from the US audience before sending me my portion. I’d then have to pay tax on that income in my own country afterwards.

I think a good chunk of countries will be fine. But another chunk of them have treaties that make them pay 5%, or 10%, or even 15%. And of course some countries don’t even have a treaty at all, so they are forced to pay that full 24%

And from what I understand, it’s not that the non-US citizens are working for an American country, but are earning ‘royalties’ from the American viewers. Which is a super shitty way to get more money.

 

Anyway at the end of the day YouTube has always been shady for taking so much from their creators, but now the American government is being shady by trying to double tax these creators out of money they barely even get to keep anyway.

I hope this idea either dies out or ends with USA being the only place it’s implemented. Like imagine other governments catching wind of this and trying to implement the same thing. Creators would literally owe every country money from their own pocket.

Well they enjoy it so much that they decide to do it full time, it takes ages to grow a channel to the point you can make money off of it, loads of time to edit videos and creating ideas for new videos.

I just see it as most youtubers are seen to be just commenting on stuff. However good for them if they are making money from it.
