Do you hate the English? Or just Westminster? Scotland is RIFE with hatred for the English and can be xenophobic just as English people can be to foreigners from various EU countries. Just curious I like to know people's opinions. 

Not everyone has to view themselves as just Scottish to be for independence. Not everyone has to feel a dual identity to be for independence or the union. How you identity is upto each individual.

But the UK is an eradication of the nationalities that make up the UK. Simply branding everything as British takes away the individuality of being from your home country and lumps everyone in together. When I look at the unions past, I don’t see a sense of pride in that. Should I feel pride in the British empire which invaded and robbed other lands while keeping natives as slaved and abusing them? Should I feel pride in Churchill who infamously caused a famine in India? Should I feel pride in someone like Margaret Thatcher who destroyed thousands of Scottish businesses? No. 

I do not hate the English at all. I hate the fact that from the outside, everyone thinks we're the same and we're not. The very idea that you think me not feeling British somehow is the same as me hating the English, is wrong. Britain =/= England, and MANY people think that it does. 

The whole system has stripped away people's nationalities. To the outside world, being from Edinburgh is no different to being from Hull. "Where are you from?" "A small town called Pitlochry" "Need to go there when I visit England!"  

Independence and politics is another thing. But if you're from Scotland or Wales or Northen Ireland, you'd have experienced that at some point. Then you get the xenophobia from people in England who make out like they can't understand you because you have a Scottish or Welsh accent. Have you ever been in a shop or a restaurant where they hold your money up to the light to make sure its "legal tender"? Its happened to me so many times in England because they see "Bank of Scotland" and try to cause a scene when we use the same money. There's a lot of microagressions against Scots and a lot of people in England who are anti-Scottish. 

When I look at everything and take everything into account, how can I feel a sense of pride in being British or even aknowledge "Britishness"? We are culturally different to eachother, we sound different, we have our own language other than English etc etc... 

I have never in my life felt British, but I have never in my life been anti-English. Being anti-British is not the same as being anti-English. And I'm not even talking political or about independence here. Just purely on nationality

Thanks for that, just to clarify. I never said that you not feeling British means you hate England I was just bringing it up so please don't think that was an accusation in the first reply. And I'm not proud of parts of British history. I'm not particularly patriotic either. And yes I know that English can be that way. And my fella tells me of the Scottish notes thing alot. But Scots do hate English too that's why I was bringing up the conversation.  I have been beaten up in Mary Hill in Glasgow just for being English. No other reason. I have had people in shops tell me to get the **** out cuz I'm English. It goes both ways. Anyway. I hope you guys get independence I really do. And I'll probably be living there with the fiancé once everything is sorted. Who knows. Was just curious of your thoughts. Thanks for replying like an adult.

You are more than welcome to come and live in an independent Scotland. 
I was talking to my Granny tonight about bigotry tonight and unfortunately it is still a stain on Scottish society. Like what happened in George Square and Ibrox over the weekend. Even the fact the orange lodge is still allowed to go ahead just squirms me up the wrong way. They are ‘Scottish’ people that hate the English because they are dirty bigots and vice versa. It is an obvious problem that needs to be sorted but thanks to Brexit, the tories  and nationalism it will still be a problem in society. 
Yet again, you are more than welcome to join us in Scotland.

It probably goes both ways because of the looooooooooooong history between our nations. What happened to you is completely wrong and something should have been done. Maryhill is a rough part of Glasgow, the people should know better than that.

I just wanted to make it clear because last year another member took me being critical of the UK Government as an attack on England and I get the feeling that a lot people who are from England see an attack on anything about the UK as an attack on England, which isn't the case. I think people need to separate the two a bit more. The UK is a political union which is recognised as a country, but the UK isn't just England. How the UK is run and governed is different to how England is run and governed as a whole.  To me the UK isn't a country but more like a corruption institution, and I see the 4 nations as countries which is being treated unfairly because of the Union.

Thank you, I know we get into heated debates sometimes. I think I get wound up because your hatred of the tories can sometimes cloud your judgement with regards to what you're trying to express, I hate them too haha. But I know you mean well really. 

Glasgow certainly is the better city. My 7th restaraunt opens on Bothwell Street soon, so I'll be back up prepping for that in the coming months.

We sure do. The amount of debates I’ve had here (on various subjects) that has gotten heated. I am sorry if I said anything out of sort.
