I’m a huge Lana fan (and I listen to all of her albums ad nauseam), but COCC isn’t doing it for me... dark but just a game was the highlight for me

LOVE JUNKIE

@kukuryku666 the second user doesn't say "its still nice", you're literally over-reading because you're wrong and you don't want to admit it, sad :bear:

I would like to clarify my position as I am that second user :whitney:

There are songs throughout Lana's entire discography that I love from pre-BTD to COTCC. I've listened to her since 2011 but some of my favorite songs of hers are more recent. Cherry and Cinnamon Girl are both amazing. And I like a couple of songs from COTCC but I'm still processing it all. I even said earlier in this thread how much I love her vocals on this album and that it's the prettiest she's ever sounded.

That being said BTD and its reissue are still probably my favorite in their entirety. I don't think her music is getting worse or anything, it's just that it has moved away from my personal taste in music so there'll be a few songs here and there that I really like and others not so much. Whereas I could listen to BTD/TPE no skips

tldr; I appreciate all her albums even if they're not my personal fav

I’m in love with it. Personally, I think its her most authentic and mature body of work. White Dress, Wild At Heart, and Yosemite are just beautiful.

I’ve noticed that she’s really been switching up with her vocals these past few albums and it just keeps getting better and better. I’m really here for this sound.

the hell is going on with her voice in For Free

Truly didn't think she could get more boring (*my opinion*) than Norman but here we are

I'm a new Lana fan, i like NFR and Ultraviolence a lot, how does COCC compare sonically? is it more folky, rock influenced, or more of her trip-hop style?

Guys all lana albums are growers. I remember hating norman ****ing Rockwell so much on first listen and now it's my favorite in her catalogue with the exception of born to die and paradise.  I love how her sound changes just subtly over the course of albums. This really is classic lana but with a touch of a country twang and a smidge of 60s/70s rock. I think wild at heart and not all who wander are lost are my favorite but I love the nostalgia of white dress too.

NFR but more singer/songwriter with some folk flavor

Poltergeist

I can't say I like the direction she's chosen somewhere before Lust For Life, as each new album is harder for me to enjoy. It took me almost one and a half year to get into NFR, and it seems that COCC may be even harder for me to like, as the only highlight of the album for me is the title song :( Most of the songs just seem too raw for me. But not raw like her demos or Lizzy Grant songs, both of which I really love. They sound forced to be this raw

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

Opulence

Not going to lie, being a Lana Stan (she is literally my #1) I was a little worried for this album following LMLYLAW and her lack of promotion however she has proven me wrong - it’s beautiful.

Dark but just a game is a nightlight for sure, along with Tulsa and White Dress. Wild at Heart and Dance till we Die are beautiful too, I can’t help but think the bridge of DTWD is similar to what Dealer would have been like with her ‘screaming’, her voice kind of reminds me of old Lana ‘Noir’ vibes.

Weirdly Yosemite is the song that stood out the least for me, but maybe it’s because I had hyped it in my head knowing about it for so long, and I also just wish she left off LMLYLAW and made it a solid 10 song album like Melodrama, oh well.

I will be streaming endlessly next Friday :applause:
