it's bizarre to me how much people care about the royal family.

Why would someone marry a royal? She wanted to progress her image. She is just a poisonous. Vicious like the rest of the royal family. She isn’t as innocent as others portray

Literally how do you progress your image by becoming/marrying a royal? :laughga: Everyone dislikes/hate em outside of the UK. There is no big sympathy for that family so this makes no sense.

You and bionic (who I am beginning to suspect is Camilla) are confusing what I am saying. It's not the fact that he WAS cut off or that it was inevitable, because he 100% knew he would no longer be supported by the family (plus it has been stated here that Charles has his own money like much of the family does apart from the taxpayers)

It is the fact that his family were treating him like a business entity but worse, and just immediately cut ties without discussion. There was no agreement about when it would end, a transition period etc. As I have stated before, I think they were looking at it more as a huge security risk and a way of explaining why they were no longer in contact with the family. That is not how you treat your child, grandchild, and great grandchild. Take the money aspect out of it, because it just shows there is a complete lack of love and compassion running throughout that family. I am happy he has found that now.

No I think we both get it, but the discussion of Charles ignoring his calls was to me more poignant than him talking about being cut off financially. Charles has his own money, yes,  and so does Harry but when we are talking about paying for security and housing - we are talking about the sovereign fund and I really don't think Harry needs Daddy to dip into his personal funds to support him financially when they are capable of surviving by themselves.

Taking the money aspect out of it detracts from, literally, the only point I made in the post you took issue with

Because you’re looking at it from less of a human emotional perspective. Which is totally understandable considering I highly doubt you’re super wealthy (to their level) yourself. Us peasants are conditioned to look at topics of money like this as a “oh look the rich mans crying! Boohoo”

I agree that it's asanine to argue about this being some heart-wrenching story about how the royals threw Prince Harry and Meghan into poverty. Which they did not, HOWEVER I do think it's important to note that if Diana wasn't smart enough to pass down her wealth to her children through private inheritance, the situation might have looked very differently. We as regular people of course only see the opulence and equate being famous with being rich, despite most famous being not being that rich to begin with.

And there's a discussion waiting to be held as well: How do we feel about children from rich & priviliged families (who don't happen to sit on a fortune because their rich mother died prematurely) falling from grace and being cut of by their families for taking a stand on socially progressive things (or god forbid maybe even identifiying as LGBTQ)? Where does the sympathy end and start?

I don't know if I'm misunderstanding things, but to me the story seemed to be: Harry & Meghan were already financially cut off before they announcened their retreat from the royal family. Not that it changes the story a lot, but I thought that would be a better explanation as to why both were so upset. I thought they were taking on duties of The Firm, without the support or compensation that usually comes along with it.

Nah, Harry was cut off when they left. That's the timeline he gave.

I think there are plenty of discussions of value to be had, in fact it's getting a little annoying that the one flippant statement I made on how tone deaf one part of the interview was (on having to use his massive, personal wealth after Daddy cut him off) is the one people are focusing on :smh:

The discussions of their "fall from grace", the treatment they have received from the media, the racism Meghan faced ect. ect. ect. really have nothing to do with that one particular part of the interview I mentioned in one of my comments in this thread.

Like I don't know how what I wrote has anything to do with having zero sympathy for rich kids that fall from grace for being progressive champions. I also personally think the point of what would have happened if Diana didn't give her children millions in inheritance is moot, because she did, it was MORE than enough to survive comfortably on and as a result I really don't think the Royals had any obligation to provide financial support once they chose to step away from Royal life.

If she didn't and Harry and Meghan were plunged into poverty then it would be a different discussion - but talking about how, hypothetically, "IF this was the situation and then IF they then did this" isn't a valuable conversation in my eyes because we could easily say "IF Harry didn't inherit a fortune from his mother and wasn't rich in his own right, then maybe Grandma would have bought them a little castle".

Nope.

I just think you're really running what was one flippant comment about one minute portion on the interview into the ground.

I think that what Meghan and Harry have endured is inhumane and awful and I'd love to discuss the parts of the interview I did find more substantiative.

Instead I find myself running around in circles having to defend myself from this straw man argument that my lack of sympathy over Harry having to be financially independent and rely on his own enormous personal wealth is indicative of how I feel about the other 99% of the story despite my first comments in this thread, my first reply to you and my comments since making it abundantly clear that I'm team Harry and Meghan.
