Are these earnings based off of their 2019 earning?

There are ppl who earned $100k in 2019. Then lost their job in 2020 and did not earn anywhere near that amount but still collected unemployment. Seems a little unfair to those in this situation who may be struggling. I was temporarily working a call center for UI in CA and it was a very common story that people lost their cars or had to relocate to a less expensive city/state because it’s not the amount they are used to. Plenty of those folks do not get a tax refund at the end of the year and have to pay a few thousand dollars.

Im not making an argument for the “rich people” because I don’t think these $75k earners are rich. It’s also because I live in a rather high rent city.

If you file your taxes ASAP, it will be based on 2020

I don't agree with this for several reasons:

1. It blatantly breaks an election promise.

2. We are using outdated income info that does not necessarily reflect people's current situations.

3. This absolutely doesn't mean more money goes to people who need it - those eligible are going to get $1400 either way. If it meant the people struggling most got more money I'd be on board, but it doesn't.

4. When people get this money but don't "need" it, at least some of it will get poured back into small businesses that have lost a lot of income during the pandemic.

5. People in places where there's a high cost of living are unfairly penalized bc their salary does not go as far.

All around bad decision imo.

Good, that’s fiscally responsible. When we got our first checks I wondered how it made sense to give money to you rich people who haven’t been affected. There should be a cap on it.

“You rich people” lol - $75k a year is no where even remotely close to being rich. Not even a little. You can’t even afford to live by yourself in Denver on $75k a year.

All of us working class people should not be fighting over scraps the government throws at us. It detracts from the much bigger systemic problem of wage inequality. E.g., Bezos is on his way to being the first trillionaire while his employees make laughable wages.

The entire US doesn't live in Denver and your comment is an exaggeration of Trump crowd size proportions.

So much for those "out the door" $2,000 checks. The Democrats continue to prove they are just as useless and spineless as the Republicans. I hope they are ready to crash in burn in '22 and '24 :madge:

"$2000 checks!"

"Wait... $1400 checks!"

"Wait wait wait... But only some of you that got them before!"

Making ourselves look so bad.

When we got our first checks, rich people didn’t get stimulus checks so you couldn’t have wondered this.

For the first stimulus check, if you are single and earning $75k to $100k, you can still get it.

If you dont call that rich for a single individual with no dependents then i dont know then.

$1,400 + $600 = $2,000

They don't deserve it? They don't need it, most of them probably, but who are you to say what they deserve or not lol

This is my opinion and i dont work for the US government so lucky for you. If you think they deserve it then your opinon and our opinion wont really change the total outcome.

Mister G

I don't want this check in any case (not bragging but neither myself or boyfriend would qualify) so better that someone else who needs the money gets it. Would have been nice if they were more generous; they can afford it they're just choosing not to...

While this doesn't change anything for me or my household personally, I'm always concerned for people in high cost-of-living areas, especially those right on the edge of the brackets/cutoffs.

I get why this deal sounds like a generally proper idea at first glance, when you're trying to address an entire huge country at once full of a variety of local economies, but there are always edge cases or strange situations and my heart goes out to them.

And based of 2019 income when many people have lost their jobs

Biden proving he is up there among the worst and breaking his campaign promises one after the other.

Dems better be ready to lose BIG in 2022 and 2024.

Like they aren't even trying anymore other than the progressives who actually give a damn :smh:
