I'm sure that by the end of the year they'll have put more towards people in need

I'm sure the people who are in true need will be so appreciative of the help nearly two years after the pandemic started. Enjoy moving the goal post for Joe and Co, if Republicans were pulling this stunt it would be torches and pitchforks. They won't help you, they're going to leave you for dead. Wake up before it's too late. People like you are so unsettling. America is doomed.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

The pandemic has been around for one year, not two.

Biden has only been in office for five weeks. It takes a few weeks to get major legislation passed.

This stimulus package will help. It is helping those who are partially and fully unemployed, helping with tax credits for children, helping small businesses and helping fund vaccine distribution.

I don’t even know why are arguing with this member...they literally liked one my comments when I was completely disagreeing with them :toofunny: I think they’re a tad lost. As can be seen from their comments, they clearly don’t know the process of passing legislation, Biden can’t pass this in a week...that’s not how it works :ladyhaha:

theyre talking about Mr Potato head for god sake :ladyhaha:

The U.S. government has suspended all federal student loan payments and halted all interest charges, through the end of September 2021. At the same time, all collections and garnishments on federal student loans in default have stopped as well.

I didn’t realize they stopped interest as well. Thanks for the clarification.

Trump and Co. gave me $2,000 (I can't believe I have to give Trump a pass :air:). All the lazy Dems have given me is more asinine fake social justice fluff. I cannot wait to buy my gender neutral Potato Head toy :ladyhaha:

You are forgetting the hospitality industry.

Yes, I could have said that, but that’s super obvious. I work in the hospitality industry, and I can tell you it’s not an essential business. That’s why we’ve been hit so hard by the pandemic. It was devastating.

Almost everyone in the hospitality industry makes wages, not salary.

Most people who make $75k or more a year (especially if they’re single) make a salary. And most of those people don’t need the stimulus checks, such as my brother-in-law.

Salaried people are not evil and do not deserve to be thrown to the lions. It is clear you have no concept of how far $75k goes in some parts of the country. Perhaps you should educate yourself first before deciding who should and should not receive government assistance. This line of thinking is why Democrats will fail next year and I cannot wait to see it happen.

I don’t think they are evil... You and I clearly come from very different philosophical perspectives.

But I WILL say this: Hourly workers, essential workers, and small business owners DO deserve the most generous assistance. And the majority of Americans actually agree with that assessment, even my conservative parents.

$75k can go pretty damn far even in expensive places like NYC if you’re smart, know how to manage your finances, and balance your budget. I know because I make about $30k and I live in NYC. I live with roommates in Brooklyn, buy a metro card, pay for subsidized health insurance via the ACA (thank you, Obama 🙏🏼), pay for a pre-paid phone plan provided by Metro PCS, and shop for groceries a little bit at a time (every other day). I usually eat fruit, potatoes, make my own bread, and a lot of canned food. However, I don’t save any money.

I am in no place to judge anyone for struggling on $75k a year. Whether they are smart with their money or not, it’s not my business to determine whether they are deserving of stimulus or not. I do believe in getting it out to them. I was just explaining my perspective.

I mean tbh i never understood the idea of just giving out checks to everyone without a more selective and targeted approach

For ppl that havent been all that affected if at all why do they need to be handed $1400 checks?

It should be a targeted approach imo because someone who makes 75,000+ a year should be financially stable enough that the cheque shouldn't be required, the idea of the cheques is to help those who need it most who have perhaps lost their jobs or have taken a significant loss of income to the point where they might struggle. It makes no sense to just send a cheque to everyone regardless of circumstance, that's how you get into a deficit that you can't get out of.

Thats what i dont get. It sounds like the plan is to send it to everyone in general even if they havent lost job or hours? Or is it only for the affected?

Cuz if it really is for everyone regardless of circustance in my opinion it shows a huge amount of entitlement that the American population demanded the checks so badly like they deserved it and Government was trash for not giving them

Every other Country i know of including here in Canada financial support was always targeted. Enhanced Ei, CERB program for unemployed which was easier to qualify for than regular EI benefits, child benefit bonuses to help parents with extra childcare costs due to school closures, senior payment bonuses to help seniors with higher medical costs etc

It was always targeted to ppl who need it. If you still work your same 40 hours a week unaffected we didnt give those ppl anything and frankly i dont see why we should

Reading this thread literally just makes me so appreciative of living in Europe.

I am not even going to go into the discussion of what salary is enough to survive or live comfortably in the US because I simply don't know. But what I can say is that everywhere in the world (including the US) you have huge disparities between larger cities (life is more expensive) and smaller (cheaper) ones. But then wages and salaries in larger cities are ALSO bigger than the ones in smaller cities.

So you are telling me you are going to complain because they decided that not EVERYONE is going to get the checks? Wtf? Here if you did not lose your job, you literally receive NO benefits whatsoever. And NOBODY is complaining because we are aware money needs to go ONLY to those who REALLY need it.

US, it's time to grow up.

One word... Entitlement!

Those struggling and affected totally deserve support. A lot of people have lost jobs, hours, childcare etc and the Government should be there for them

But if ur among the many ppl who work in a job or industry that wasnt affected, you still got your same hours and income etc, why such a strong stance that you need and deserve those $2000?

Again every other Country i know of assistance has been highly targeted to those most affected, not checks given to everyone at random

My family for example doesnt need checks at all. 3 of us in our household continue to work full time (2 of us overtime actually). If the Government wanted to give us cash obviously i wouldnt refuse it, but i certainly wouldnt demand it either. Leave the funds for those most suffering that ACTUALLY NEED IT!

Here in Canada we did the following:

- Unemployent benefits extended (in our system it automatically does so when unemployment rate rises so no action was needed here)

- CERB program. This program was meant to cover ppl with $500/week who lost their jobs due to covid. The program was designed to be easier to qualify for than refular unemployment benefitd

- Student Summer payments for students who did not qualify for CERB due to not being employed before

- extra child bonus payments for parents due to higher childcare costs from school closures

- bonus payments to seniors to offset any higher medical or even other costs pandemic may create (for example more seniors order food to not go out which is more expensive)

The point is the help was always targeted for those in need. We didnt give away cash randomly for ppl that still have their jobs
