What? I think you should look up some theories on sexism and misogyny. It impacts probably every woman in the world because there is no escaping it. It’s built into major systems of government, business and even in the framework of capitalism. Whether a woman notices it or not, it is how she perceives her place in the world. It also really has nothing to do with the women’s class status. Yes there are degrees to it all, and by Taylor being a blonde white pop star she is afforded certain things others aren’t, especially people of color.

So oppression is this omnipotent being that we should all always accept and fear even without proof? Sounds familiar lol :poot:

But for real, just because you can be a victim of sexism/homophobia/transphobia/racism, does not automatically mean you are oppressed.  Oppression is so much more than that, pretending it's not makes it lose all meaning.

Well I don't think all gay men are oppressed either, will u take my opinion on that?

No I won’t. You can think that if you want, maybe because you can’t see it immediately around you. But again this all more so theoretical. If a gay man can pass as straight then that may change things for a bit in certains environments, but if he doesn’t adhere to what society defines as the “norm” than he will face oppression or prejudice in his life. Maybe even in places he hasn’t even sought out in his life yet.

I don't recall her publicly announcing which song is for what person she might have hung out, tho :oprah:

In fact, I don't think she ever did. She might hinted in lyrics, but I doubt the GP would latch so much into it to the point most people can say what you said they do.

And again, every singer has a song doing that, basically.

The whole point of this is that it's an old, tacky joke that can't even stand ground nowadays (I don't see people joking about that since, like, 2012?) disguised as a "humor". Like, what were the writers thinking? lmao

But I guess she's the only to blame. Oh, had she didn't date all these boys, you know! :flop:

The song Style is literally playing on Harry Style’s last name. She had this cryptic promotion tactic and people were always trying to find out “who the song was about”

The joke IS old and tacky. The writing in this show is a disaster, by the way.

I am not blaming her. But when you are a celebrity and date other celebrities, your relationship history WILL be public and talked about.

NO ONE is talking about Gaga’s exes because they were for the most part not famous and she didn’t choose to profit from those relationships.

Ohh Jesus... she is a public person and it is funny to hear something like this from a singer who writes a song about almost every ex-boyfried. By her criteria she should stop singing because every song of hers is about someone...

I LOVED G&G AND CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT SEASON!!

and yeah... that line was funny!

That’s exactly why I didn’t use the word oppression in my reply to you because I think you are seeing it in a very literal way and conflating it with other things that complicate the argument like socio economic status.

Oppression is not theoretical for the people who are actually oppressed :huntyga: And believe me when I say I'm not straight passing and absolutely have experienced bs because of that, but that doesn't mean I live in a system or society that oppresses me for being gay.

But we are talking about oppression, I never said women are not victim to misogyny because they absolutely are, pretty much all of them.

All I’ll say is okay. I’m happy you get to live like that. If anything that is a big positive in this thread!

this reeks of “i don’t understand how things work” lol

she has experienced gender-based struggles in her life. from sexual harassment, to discrimination from her record label, to the media’s behaviour towards her. she has experienced misogyny, like any woman, regardless of other factors.

Yeah and those things are shitty, still doesn't mean she's oppressed.

you just posted the definition of it

"pcruel or unjust treatment"

if calling you a dehumanizing word that killed millions of people just because they were like you is not a cruel treatment, idk what is.

not caring about it =/= not opressed

Then you could stretch it to the point that, if you were ever bullied, for whatever reason. You are also oppressed. It just takes away from the word's meaning and screams victim complex to me.

pussycat

I get why she's pissed tbh, it's def not the first joke to be made about how many boyfriends she's had

It's just not funny anymore after all this time, especially for her. She shouldn't have to get over it or take the joke bc tbh she has taken it a lot already

Taylor not laughing about it anymore is just self- respect at this point imo.

It was a bad joke that no one laughed at, I don’t see the need to look for clout again.
