Fortunately all of them were acquaintances or very casual family friends. None of them i was particularly close to so their deaths didnt hit me too hard

 

But its still insane to know that many ppl dying of it

 

The youngest to die of it was 60. Most were elderly

Optional. People do get contacted about making an appointment, but over 65s and extremely vulnerable people can book an appointment online. They don't have to wait to be contacted

Vaccinations are optional, the NHS (National Health Service) will contact us informing us what date/time to get vaccinations. We do not have to do anything but wait to be contacted for when it is our turn.

We shall see... I'm not holding my breath. I want the vaccine asap but there's too many factors still at play. Supply, demand, different variants that are resistant to the vaccine... yeah, not much hope. Another thing to add to his list of fck ups

Firstly I want to say I didn't mean to attack you so I apologise if my comment came across like that. Boris is basically the Walmart version of Trump and the majority of this site hate Trump for good reasons. Boris just doesn't have the delusional cult following that Trump has.

I agree that too much blame is being put on Trudeau given the state of vaccine production facilities he was handed by Conservatives. As a caveat though, there was probably more that could have been done early on in the pandemic to get to enable at least SOME vaccine production capability in Canada.

They're saying Kate Bingham, who headed the vaccine taskforce, recognized early on the UK did not have much vaccine production capability at hand, with only two active plants (one for flu vaccines, one against encephalitis). Back in February, they recognized the need for incentives to attract vaccine companies and created the Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre, which obviously isn't fully operational yet, but has been producing a significant amount of AstraZeneca Vaccine. They also secured deals with foreign vial plants as another incentive for Pfizer to partner with them.

It's an interesting read and provides a lot of insight into her visionary and proactive thinking. Canada was obviously in a tough position, but I think with a visionary like Bingham at the head of our taskforce and swift action to make us competitive, we could probably have made ourselves more essential in the vaccine race so that we're not constantly the first ones to face delays. It's all "coulda woulda shoulda" of course, but highlights the importance of quick and bold action in times of crisis like this.
