Who knew that treating animals like non-sentient products instead of living beings creates a breeding ground for diseases This isn’t new either, I believe it is theorized that HIV came to be from humans eating bush meat/primates that were infected with a simian virus. And as others mentioned mad cow disease, swine flu, bird flu and there was also foot in mouth disease. The lesson that seemingly needs to be learned is a) preventing people from eating “exotic”/non domesticated animals through education as well as providing them better food/medicine options and b) better conditions on farms which includes less huge industrial farms and more small local farms with higher standards for animal welfare, which would make meat more scarce and expensive but it does seem to be a necessary change at this point. We’ve been ignoring the environmental effects but now that it is causing the spread of deadly diseases more and more I think people might be reaching a breaking point.
