Guest
It took less than 24 hours for Kendall Jenner's tequila brand to come under fire. Almost as soon as Jenner made the announcement, saying that she'd worked for more than four years to craft 818 Tequila, what she's calling the world's best-tasting tequila, critics came forward accusing Jenner of exploiting Mexican culture. "For almost 4 years I've been on a journey to create the best-tasting tequila. after dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING ... 3.5 years later i think we've done it!" Jenner wrote in her post. "This is all we've been drinking for the last year and i can't wait for everyone else to get their hands on this to enjoy it as much as we do! @drink818 coming soon." https://www.instagram.com/p/CLXIC-VDSVz/ Tequila traditionally comes from the Jalisco region in Mexico (818 does come from the area) and requires difficult work, from growing and harvesting agave plants to the actual bottling and production. Twitter users called Jenner out, not only mentioning that her launch could overshadow local producers and small businesses but pointing out that the name of the liquor, 818, is an homage to Calabasas, not to Mexico. It's the area code for Jenner's hometown. Twitter also rallied around smaller brands, with an entire thread sharing options with anyone looking to support local producers. s: https://www.instyle.com/celebrity/kendall-jenner/kendall-jenner-818-tequila-backlash

Ryusei 61,110
How surprising. I dont like her at all or any kardashian/jenners but she could launch anything and there would be „backlash“. I feel like anything any celebrity does nowadays gets „backlash“ from SOMEONE and i‘m so tired of that word it‘s so overused. Thats the main reason for my comment Musery
Beatboom 948
Wouldn't be surprised if Kris Jenner manufactured this controversy for marketing. I trust nothing with that family. They love any type of attention. Its all part of the game for them.

I'm convinced most backlash they get is planned ahead of time, or carefully controlled and optimized for maximum exposure.

hELXIG 43,065
I think over the years most of the rational minded people have left Twitter, and the only ones remaining now are the crazy, holier-than-thou, cancel-culture people. It's a mess over there. I don't use Twitter anymore... well except for... I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Kris Jenner certainly is a business mogul but maybe they also know how to circumvent all of the negativity because they’ve been in the spotlight for almost 20 years and broke through at the dawn of social media?? ItWasntLaauv 6,392
At the end of the day, it’s a celebrity liquor product launch, it’s not THAT deep in my opinion. Maybe that’s problematic of me to say but... idk.

People on the Internet just try to be woke about the most meaningless things you just can't say or do anything anymore without offending someone nowadays... FunkYou 352
Outraging. I'm speechless. I totally understand. Was just thinking my cousin should also stop making his own vodka, such a disrespect to the russians. If only I had a Twitter account...
Skabi 3,096
its getting tiring... im all here for supporting small businesses instead of big brands etc but... why would she face backlash? i mean quite frankly EVERYTHING nowadays has a smaller less known "equivalent". why use an iphone when you can use another brand, why wear adidas when you can wear a pair of shoes from a local shoe maker, why use twitter when there are so many less known blogspots and forums out there? at this point twitter people are trying to create problems out of thin air
vyniildisk 12,689
please support 100% mexican tequila brands that been said, let's leave drama, specially twitter drama in 2020
MJHolland 12,725
No like I low key agree with the ppl dragging her... Also, not the same outrage-junkies coming into this thread to decry “cancel culture”.... 2 hours ago, Lucas said: No, you are right! And apparently you can’t even tweet your opinion about Kendall Jenner without offending GGD? Like how do you not realize that your inability to let others freely hold their own opinions is just as bad as the ‘woke’ness you’re complaining about. You’re all literally offended that other people are offended by something... that’s offensive to me! Lol. How about we stop the cycle of outrage and let other people live and get their jush.
