The head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Sunday it is “absolutely” too soon to lift mask mandates, citing daily COVID-19 case numbers that despite recent declines remain more than double the levels seen last summer.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky’s warning that face-covering requirements are still critical came just days after governors in Iowa and Montana lifted long-standing mask mandates in their states.

Yea, until a bulk of the general public is vaccinated, we shouldn't ditch masks. Hell, even if we get the vaccine, the variant that dominates us in 6 months might be impervious to it. We'll just have to wait things out before we make any hasty decisions. (I'm looking at you, Republican Governors)

absolutely

my snapchat (95% friends from HS and family) went out for valentines day last night and though some were safe others went to party's and out to dinner (whilst i'm here waiting in my APT since last March leaving maybe once a week since my stepdad is high risk)

we are not even close to the amount of people vaccinated to ease up on the mask usage (in fact I recommend double masking)

I'm honestly not surprised, nor do I have hope for this damn country. I personally don't mind wearing my mask everywhere I go. I love having a sense of ID privacy and an alternative sense of fashion on top of my respiratory safety.

I'm not getting any sleep tonight because I woke up to a beautiful life. I'm awake.

This. When I wear my mask I feel more sheltered and like no one will talk to me :laughga: Honestly I hate how politicized it is now, because I can totally see myself just wearing one for fashion and privacy in the future.

I meant to add this, especially now that we're under a Winter Storm watch in half an hour.:billie:

I will definitely keep wearing my mask for a while, until the situation is under control. I will be glad to take it off when the time comes however, I miss seeing people's smiles and I also have a bit of a hearing problem, reading on lips helps me out a lot.

The masks are effective for many reasons that everyone listed above.  Thank goodness there has been a general cultural shift toward them.  I often wonder why here in the US we hadn't suggested them during the traditional flu season.  Will definitely be wearing a mask in the winter from now on post-vaccination (plus the added warmth doesn't hurt).

I am going to start double masking given the new recommendations. Especially since I work in a Petri dish.
