The original one was BUTCHERED by Whedon, and fans campaigned for years for Synder and WB to release the director's cut. But that doesn't stop DC to explore other things at all! After Snyder shot the film WB fired him and hired Joss Whedon to direct reshoots because they wanted it to be lighter in tone like a Marvel movie. The version that came out in 2017 was 70% reshoots footage shot by Joss, and it was a 2 hour movie. And it was extremely horrible This version is Zack's uncompromised vision. He likes to over shoot and then cut down in post. So he has about 4 hours of footage and the original idea was to cut it down to 2.5-3 for theaters but WB didn't want that. Now they're giving him full creative control so he's giving us everything he shot - It's almost 4 hours long.
