Then maybe create more roles for black actors? The crazy thing here is that this is obviously exploitive and people thinking this is a good idea don’t even realize it.

OT I hope it flops hard

Why is it that you feel entitled to decide whether a role is "black" or "white"? That sounds really bad.

This was an official message from the Office of the First Lady.

The director is a white woman :bear: I just don’t get it because there are plenty of real black stories that go without media representation. Making white historical figures black doesn’t give you real historical representation. Same thing with the Cleopatra movies and representation.

I’m all for diversity when it makes sense and when it is appropriate. There are plenty of historical people of color who’s stories have never been told and I would love to know more about them. Race bending a historical figure just adds fuel to the fire instead of pushing things forward.

You can’t be serious. I’m not entitled to anything. In this case facts and history decide whether a role is black or white. Wow.

This is forced diversity, if directors wanted to be inclusive would make a movie of the life of an historical black figure, with a black cast, not this, let me tell you that this can make the whole movement to look ridiculous.

This. Being inclusive is not changing historically white figures(Anne Boleyn is not a character, she is a figure) to POC. Being inclusive is actually making movies from the art of cultures of POC, with accurate POC depicting the roles.  the millions of stories and art that come out of Africa or Asia are ignored, why? This is FAKE WOKE. Some of you are so blind by your own agendas that you have become confused as to what inclusion actually is.

I just think a lot of them are hypocritical without even realizing it. And when you point it out a lot of them have nothing to say. And some of them also get very defensive and angry when you disagree even in the slightest way possible.

Yeah i know. Thats why when i have a thought to discuss if they wanna discuss in a civilized mannor fine... but when its ppl that wanna just snap at u for not agreeing with the slightest angle in their thinking i already know what type of ppl they are and stop responding. I dont waste time with extremists anymore that think only their way is right and everyone else is wrong and get agressive about it

That goes for anyone in any political spectrum conservative, centrist or left wing alike.

in this era of overcorrection anything will upset anyone haha
there is no right or wrong here really
having diversity in a cast is a great thing. You can of course cast a black woman as the Queen, at the same time however it will no longer be an accurate representation of what happened historically, but more of a fictional film and that's okay :) colonisation and oppression were recurring themes back then, imagine doing a movie on slavery in the U.S. and having white slaves and black slave owners and saying that's what it was like, people would be really offended and confused haha

Have whatever opinion you want, but if you’re still pressed and upset about this... that’s a big ‘ol red racist flag imo

it’s obviously an artistic choice. But some of y’all that probably got straight Bs and Cs in grade school history are suddenly clutching your pearls about preSeRVing tHE iNTeGRitY Of hISToRy.

Chill.

That's the point: yes, black Hitler is totally fine, would be great to explore a black Hitler, you need to understand that once a Hitler is written on a paper for a movie, he's a character and it's becoming a "what if" kind of thing.

White Nelson Mandela? white Black Panther? maybe in hundreds of years of progression when racism will be over in the world and POC will be equal and then it would be possible to "white" these historical people and these characters and see them from a "white" point of view, but atm, nope.

It's that simple.

So dumb. Just because someone wants something to be historically accurate, since it is a historical time piece, doesn’t make them a racist. Are you really that simple? Is everything really that black and white for you? Wow.

If you think that "historical accuracy" is what's really causing this outrage, then it's you that are the simple one. This should be a complete non-issue, but suddenly there's an inordinate amount of rage over the casting of a black actress for a white historical figure for a story that's been done to death.

For the purists concerned with racial accuracy, go watch the dozen other films about Anne Boleyn with a white actress portraying the role if Jodie Turner-Smith's casting bothers you. :usrs:
