I do think think they have the right idea at heart but go a little too far sometimes in trying to be woke then get mad if someone doesnt fuly agree with those far ended opinions. I think thats where the balance is lost and many ppl get turned off by it and why it backfires sometimes

I too sometimes get more annoyed with some individuals than anything. Even tho the core ideas of activism still should be pushed and need to be

I just think a lot of them are hypocritical without even realizing it. And when you point it out a lot of them have nothing to say. And some of them also get very defensive and angry when you disagree even in the slightest way possible.

It's incredible you guys speak with total confidence in defense of "historical accuracy" when we don't even know how Anna looked like to fvcking begin with. All the paintings of her that were made during her lifetime were destroyed by Henry after she executed her. Like, god you all are such a joke.

The lack of understanding in these comparisons speaks volumes.

Lol, yeah sure, you would be fuming all over the forum and Twitter if white person would be casted to represent Obama. But it's ok to cast black actress to represent Queen of England who is white and to try to reshape history. Just stop with your double standards and hypocrisy which speaks volumes here.

The difference here is that black actors need roles, white ones don't. It's not that hard to understand you see

So like reverse racism is okay? White man cannot be casted to play black historical figure, bet yet black actor can be casted to represent white historical figure? Make it make sense with "black actors need roles, white ones dont", like wtf is this, both need roles equally and none should be left out.

What does both have to do with the other? The fact that someone long ago made stupid and racist things means we have to repeat them, this time polarizing?

Lots of disgusting and stupid replies on this thread which I am absolutely not shocked about.
I remember when Halle Bailey was announced to play Ariel and y’all were saying the same thing and ariel’s a literal cartoon fish :air: just say you’re racist and go :air: don’t tell BIPOC how we should be feeling about this

if 485 years after his death if someone makes a show about Obama, who knows what the person portraying him will look like, and who will give one good goddamn?! :laughga:

As for "reshaping history", Hamilton won 11 Tony awards and was one of the biggest most popular Broadway shows for years but I'm pretty sure nobody thinks George Washington is a Black man who spoke in hip-hop verse :ladyhaha:

Show a little imagination people, expand the mind!

It seems like you believe casting a black person in a "white" role, whatever that means, is "reverse racism"? Sis :air: Black people need more roles than white people and this is a fact, idk what you're trying to convey here. Discrimination in the industry is rampant. The same happens with gay and trans people. Again, it's not that hard to udnerstand. You're hurting yourself in your own confusion by implying that a white Obama is the same as a black Anna like wtf

People complaining about the whole Ariel thing are stupid but complaining about this isn't. The character this actress is playing was a real historical figure. We are also just talking about the past 1000 years so we do have good sources to say that the Queen of England was White. Cleopatra for example is a lot more nuanced as we do not have a clear idea of her race.

And for people saying black actors need roles, how about the Chinese or Indians or aboriginals or hispanics? They are even less represented than black people, shouldn't we have given someone from one of these demographics the role? Let's make a movie where Abraham Lincoln is played by a Chinese man or a movie on Martin Luther King Junior played by a white man. See how silly and ridiculous this sounds? :lmao:

There's a lot to cover in this mess of a post.

First of all, did you even read my other post where I literally said I agree that in this case the race has no bearing to her story or legacy???

Secondly, I never said for historical figures whose race is important to their lives and story to be played by white ppl. Of course I know the difference between a situation like that vs this. Those were other users saying that so don't put words in my mouth. Nowhere am I trying to do a one size fits all argument nor am I trying to have moral highground.

You're the one bringing up situations like Harriet Tubman being played by a white woman to discredit what i've said when my post had nothing to do with situations like that. You would know that if you read my earlier post acknowledging different situations.

Thirdly, since you missed the point of the post, here it is in plain writing. All I was saying was that in recent years white people have been called out for misrepresentation and there has been a whole movement about it. As there should be. But that means that I highly doubt a white person playing a POC with the same claims as "it's fiction or their race had no bearing on their story" would be able to fly. It would most likely be met with backlash and calls for accurate representation. Which in that case it would be a double standard.

I also don't appreciate the insults or the assumptions you made in the last paragraph when none of that is even relevant to anything I said. If you are going to continue that for when/if you quote other people, than "why would anyone want to engage with you?"

What a clap back !!

Then maybe create more roles for black actors? The crazy thing here is that this is obviously exploitive and people thinking this is a good idea don’t even realize it.

OT I hope it flops hard
