You are on the fan site of a multi-millionaire who is currently promoting a cosmetic line created exclusively with a company that has an extensive history of ethical issues, including “worker abuse.” 

You can be a wealthy person who makes poor decisions, and still be a good person. Ellen is an example of that. So is Gaga. 

The amount of bile that is directed at Ellen is wildly disproportionate to what she is accused of doing.

Wow… reading the replies in this thread really shows how little progress we’ve made in terms of compassion & understanding. There is 0 comparison. Gaga partners with Amazon, is NOT Gaga making the lives of those who work with her horrible. Yes they are both rich, you did get a successful link there.

I disagree that there isn't a legitimate comparison to be made.

You can be a highly philanthropic, queer, talented, trailblazer, who publicly preaches the value of kindness, while also being the multi-millionaire head of company which profits off of an unethical and toxic work place environment. That is true of Ellen. It is true of Gaga. If you don't think it is, then you should look up Amazon's history of unethical behavior, particularly around the time that Haus Labs launched.

Our icons, like all of us, are capable of being messy and hypocritical. That doesn't make them bad people. It doesn't make them worthy of the kind of petulant nastiness which is directed at Ellen by certain users on this site. You can hold public figures to account without loosing site of their humanity.
