Guest ARTPOPSlays
Just a little disclaimer, I love Joanne! I think it’s one of my favorite Gaga albums and I love how stripped back it is and how there’s no auto tune it’s just her vocals. However when I listen to these dive bar performances I can’t help but feel like I wish the album hit as hard as these performances, and I wish the audio were as clear and crisp im not sure what it’s like when it comes to producing and mastering music...but this is just my opinion as an outsider...I don’t make music lmao. OMonster 14,675
I know what you mean, to be honest. These performances are actually really electric, looking back. She was so passionate about fired-up for the era. When Gaga feels it, her talent shines so bright. subtext / fantasy
Anderson123 38,462
That's why Gaga did these performances. She wanted to make it a special album with intimate shows and singing with her band and friends. One of my favorite A-Yo performances is the one where Mark Ronson and Brian Newman are there as well and they're all jamming at the end of the song and the band continues to play their instruments. I love that performance too! I love how they weren’t focused on being perfect they were just focused on having fun, I think that’s when she shines most
Defmix100 6,393
when I first heard the studio version of A-Yo I was really surprised at the lack of backing vocals in the chorus like in the live versions, it gives a really different vibe
Cookie Tookie 10,546
A-Yo needed harmonized backing vocals on the studio track.
Eggs 2,776
I love Joanne but I agree that its main failing is that the production sounds a bit too polite, a bit too sanitised. I always blamed Mark Ronson for this, but after Chromatica, and what we know about his involvement in Joanne, my finger points to BL**DPOP
Super 1,021
The mixing ruined the organic feeling of the album. I also feel like they shortened it purposely. Joanne could easily be 4+ minutes long but it’s hardly 3 minutes. Perfect Illusion she barely has time to breath, and so on.
BlondeQueenOfGGD 25,454
I love how A-YO’s live chorus is so Barnyard
Just A Holy Fool 2,572
I still maintain A-Yo should have been the lead... but whatever. The Dive Bar performances MADE the era. Even if it didn't do well commercially, it really pivoted Gaga's career in a huge way. There is no Shallow without Joanne.

Shipper 13,078
I love that she would perform on the roof of the venue. She did this a couple of times and it felt so intimate and special! 🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶
Ladle Ghoulash 25,053
Couldn’t agree more. The songwriting and vocals are A+, but the way the album is engineered makes the songs less dynamic. I wish they were recorded to sound live and engineered like ASIB. We have forgotten our public MANNERS
ShayCristoforo 10,607
Agreed, especially Million Reasons. For example, I can’t stand the album version but I love this performance: Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.
River 117,237
her voice in MR album version is crispy like she just smoked a cig before (probably she did) but live it sounds more dreamy pinkish So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
