Why all the ARTPOP hate?

Gagas lil monster

ARTPOP seems to get a lot of unfair critism from both the general and little monsters alike. If we take away from the MESS that was DWUW the album is amazing and despite the hate the era was getting she still served and fed us HEAPS. No hate I'm genuinely curious :kara:

idk I started being obsessed with Gaga during ARTPOP (when she released Applause, specifically), so it's really close to my heart. idk why some people hate it though

I think it got a lot of hate back then, but not now. And that was mostly the mess that was Troy Carter and the fact Gaga could never explain her project. People just didn't get it

As Gaga said in the Zane Lowe interview last year "people weren't ready". As a conceptual piece, the album was a mess and Gaga couldn't explain it. Then we found out most of the tracks are actually borrowed or bought beats, which doesn't make sense within the ARTPOP relm.

Its not a bad album by any means, but the whole thing is a mess and I'm happy Gaga brought it back in a more structured form with Chromatica

I hate the fact that the demos sounded better than the final versions. The album had so much potential.

I see 95% of LMs praising it. The album grew on me. It was the second Gaga album I listened to and my first thought was it was mostly an electronic mess but it really grew on me

For pre existing beats its not most of the tracks, a few of them. Venus was her debut solo production (Though a bit of post stuff from Madeon when it was done) I wouldnt say it was a mess of an album, the era was and I think that kind of reflected on the perception of the album

Well conceptually its like Gaga had an idea and spat it out with no real form onto a canvas. There's no real way to navigate it. The concept was supposed to be putting art at the forefont yet the opening track is a bought beat and dulled down from what she wanted, the 2nd track uses a sample throughout the whole song (which isn't a bad thing but its literally a copy and paste), MJH is a bought track, Donatella is a borrowed track, I Wanna Be With U was changed to Dope, Do What U Want features R.Kelly, Gyspy doesn't make sense...

The songs aren't bad at all, but as a whole album it does get quite messy. Its hypocritical at times, and she (the artist) did not have full control on how her art should be made... which was the whole point of the album.

Its my second favourite album, so I'm not coming at this because I hate it.

Wet Fire

It was seen as something pretentious: commercial music trying, claiming to bring back art into pop but still not pushing boundaries. That was the criticism. Gaga was trying too hard to be artistic.

After Beyoncé surprise-released her self-titled, many critics were calling it the real ARTPOP, obviously to dismiss Gaga.

Cuz LMs are not happy unless they are hating on anything Gaga does. Usually things that are really important to her.

What do you mean MJH is a bought track? Who did she buy it from? Also with Donatella, how can you borrow a song? Am I too young to understand this? :ladyhaha:
