the majority of the tracks are borrowed or bought beats from producers. It's quite inauthentic in that respect. And I also feel the label ruined that album by making Gaga put Dope on there.

That is a lie that is repeated ad nauseum by ARTPOP haters. The only instrumentals Gaga bought are Aura, Donatella and MJH, so 3 songs, a fifth of the album, and considering they reworked the Aura instrumental it might as well be 2 and a half.

Chromatica has literally as many borrowed tracks as ARTPOP (Sour Candy, Replay, SFA) and it’s somehow hailed as Gaga’s most authentic record.

Also Interscope didn’t force Gaga to make Dope, they wanted I Wanna Be With You as a single so she reworked it as Dope in defiance.

Girl with Sour Candy and Replay, that’s called sampling, not the same case at all

I don’t mean the samples. Replay and Sour Candy started as songs that Gaga had nothing to do with. She heard them, hopped on them and reworked them, exactly like she did with the aforementioned ARTPOP songs, yet no one seems to have a problem with them.

What? I obviously knew about SFA since it’s been pretty common knowledge but Replay and SC? I had never heard of those being previously existing tracks and it doesn’t even show on the credits, unlike SFA which shows all the original writers. When was it confirmed those were previously existing tracks?

In an Entertainment Weekly interview with Chromatica’s producers soon after the album came out.

Sour Candy was started by Madison Love, Bloodpop and others in a recording session unrelated to Chromatica. Gaga ended up hearing it and finished it.

Replay started as a BURNS demo unrelated to the album. He was playing around with the Diana Ross sample, Bloodpop heard it and suggested they use it for Chromatica.

I think the argument of some ARTPOP instrumentals being reused and Chromatica having borrowed elements prior to Chromatica is unfair to both of the projects considering the instrumentals were all reworked for ARTPOP to fit the song by the producer who made the instrumentals in the first place, and the pre-existing early works in progress on Chromatica were also changed and shaped in Chromatica's image.

Just because someone was working on something prior to these concepts (both for ARTPOP and Chromatica) doesn't make them inauthentic. Realizing that an instrumental would be perfect for X or Y doesn't discredit its authenticity imo.

I completely agree. I hate people using the “authenticity” argument as if that affects the quality of the music.

My problem is that people overwhelmingly use it for one album (ARTPOP) and not for the other (Chromatica).

ARTPOP is often the soulless album full of borrowed beats where Gaga had little creative input and Chromatica is Gaga’s most personal project where every bit of her creativity was poured into it.

In reality both have the same amount of borrowed tracks, and the alleged “authentic” album has no producing credits from her while the “inauthentic” one is full of them.

People so often pick and choose facts and warp reality to make their arguments. If you’re gonna argue that one album is bad at least don’t lie while doing it.

I mean, it sounds like he’s considering the music videos, the aesthetics, the performances, everything in these eras, he even says that he really liked Chromatica but it wasn’t executed well and later talks about how ARTPOP had the best aesthetics n things

i guess he’s rated the eras based on her artistry
