However, Gaga was the first person to really speak about it in a song/album that was played everywhere on radio. Gaga was campaign against DADT before BTW so yeah progress was already there. But I think where we are today is largely down to Gaga and BTW. Its more "normalised" now than it was back then, and Gaga helped do that. If it wasn't then we wouldn't have the society we have now where gay and lesbian people feel much more 'safe' and now we're making progress with bisexuality and trasngender issues as well as non-binary. Like I definitely feel being LGBTQ+ is much less of a deal now than it was back in 2011, less pressure to "come out", less people judging you, more of an accepting environment. Not claiming Gaga erased homophobia, but the way I see it is that we've made leaps and bounds within the past 10 years and I truly think that's because of Gaga/BTW's impact. I think a lot of other ppl on here feel the same way, this album was actually so necessary and life-changing. Newer fans today won't understand how important BTW was for young queer youth when it came out in 2011. Never had I felt more seen in my life.
