3 female directors nominated at the Golden Globes

"The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has come under attack in recent years for failing to pay attention to inclusion and diversity. At the most recent ceremony, for instance, the group put forward — yet again — an all-male slate of directors, failing to nominate women like Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”) and Olivia Wilde (“Booksmart”).

It was different this year. [Regina King ("One Night In Miami")], Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) and Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) were recognized. Joining them was David Fincher (“Mank”) and Aaron Sorkin (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”). Left out was Spike Lee for “Da 5 Bloods.” The war drama generated a strong critical response, and Lee has been nominated three times before by the group (most recently for directing “BlacKkKlansman”)."

This is amazing, especially since all the movies are top tier. I think Chloe is the solidified winner (as she should), but it's nice to see Regina and Emerald here (especially since Promising Young Woman is next ****ing level).

We love to see it.

Really rooting for Chloé cause Nomadland is beautiful. Also loved Promising Young Woman, hoping for that Carey win in best actress. Haven't seen One Night In Miami yet but happy for Regina.

It's really good. It's definitely a well directed movie in terms of directing performances. It's not like the other two for style, but more like a really well-directed play (which is kind of on the nose lol). That's the kind of directing that has gone under nominated cause I'm pretty sure it's very difficult as well.

Seeing Regina do great through this awards season as a director would  be so great after her last season's acting accolades

I was really rooting for Kelly Reichardt and Autumn de Wilde too, an all-female director lineup would've been a wild turnaround after last year :laughga: So happy for these 3 though, Chloe Zhao has been underrated for half a decade now and she's finally coming to gather her dues.

I think she's gonna win at least 3 oscars this year. She's basically a lock to win director and screenplay, best picture seems to be going in her favour too, and quite frankly (although I think Trial of the Chicago 7 is gonna win it), i wouldn't be shocked if she won editing as well.

It's been a sad season to follow because half of the movies I was following at the beginning of the year all got delayed, so it wasn't even until January that anyone had any solid picks that they could bank on.

If you would've talked to me in September, I would have told you that Dune was gonna win like 7 awards.

I’m rooting for Promising Young Woman but for some reason I feel Nomadland is gonna sweep. Also here for them acknowledging Minari :diane:

I thought the closure of theatres meant that indie movies will get their time to shine during award season but it's been pretty standard business-as-usual outside of a few welcomed surprises.

The Trial of Chicago 7 sweeping would be extremely emblematic of the Academy though lol, a civil rights movie focused on white protestors directed by a white man. :laughga:
