Biden signs order to ‘undo moral and national shame’ of family separations as Homeland Security chief sworn in

President Joe Biden has signed three extensive executive actions targeting Donald Trump’s immigration agenda, including measures to begin reuniting families separated at the US-Mexico border and review the former administration’s asylum policies.

The president said his order will “work to undo the moral and national shame of family separations” by creating a task force to reunite families separated at the US-Mexico border under the previous administration’s “zero tolerance” policy.

I think he is doing the right thing here...

Unlawfull immigrants need to be handled differently than lawful ones, but children need not be separated from their parents..

Yup, but technically many of these immigrants were seeking asylum so they were "legal" in the sense that they were just following the process. It's crazy that we even did this in the first place, we literally had a process for keeping families together for decades.

Good :applause: but I wonder - it seemed like every thread about Biden would get filled with pages of discussions about his supposed inaction on this topic. Why does this thread only have two posts after two hours? Aren't we supposed to rejoice in the fact that Biden's showing that he's going to be the most progressive president the US has ever had? For a large part this is Bernie's legacy, because he swayed the Democratic party to the left, but let's give Bidem credit where it's due.

There's a lot less to discuss, realistically. Most of those discussions were anticipating 2 different futures, so there was back and forth. I assume most people would just comment support, so the likes kinda supplement that.

I agree that we should do more to encourage more of this, though!
