Children in China are to be banned from using their phones in school, the Ministry of Education has ruled.

Pupils will not be allowed to bring mobiles to school without written parental consent.

The authorities say they want to protect young people's eyesight, improve their concentration and prevent internet addiction.

Many schools in China already restrict the use of mobile phones on their premises. In some extreme cases, phones have been smashed in front of students who have broken the rules.

I never knew phones were allowed at school till i started watching american sitcoms.

Reminds me of when I was in THE THIRD SEMESTER OF COLLEGE and a professor threatened to confiscate our phones and only return it to OUR PARENTS :deadbanana:

Once again we're going to have many "but how will they contact their parents if anything happens????" as if there hadn't been a time where mobile phones didn't exist.

The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic!

I hate cellphones, I wish they didn't exist so I was happy with this, but smashing a phone if the kid breaks the rule? That's... a bit much.

Gurl when I was at school we also had cell phones forbidden, they would confiscate it and our parents had to go pick it up and then you would get suspended for 3 days. Teachers would get more relaxed with it as you got older tho, it was stricter for elementary school and 7th-9th graders than the seniors.

Then again, I was in a catholic private school, we had all sorts of stupid rules :bear:

I'm actually surprised at how many seem to agree with that rule?

How about trying to incorporate new technology into the learning environment than banning it from schools? I get that phones can be a distraction to many but how about teaching pupils how they can use them responsible and as an enhancement?

It just seems very backwards thinking to me..

The thing is though (and it’s frustrating) a lot of the school curriculum is web based so students kinda get left behind if they don’t use technology
