Those countries have caused the same or even worse destruction to continents around the world, fueling genocide with imperialism and racism. Turkey’s past doesn’t make it a lesser country, just like any other country. I’m sorry if Turkey has caused suffering for you but if you came to Turkey we would offer you tea and show you around no matter where you are from. I hope in the next election gen z and millennials come together to elect a liberal leader that is more tolerant and less vile Before, I thought he would reign until he dies, but in 2019 the opposition won all the large cities in local elections, there was a redo in Istanbul because the margin was so tight and the opposition had an ever larger victory. I was shocked. I think there will be early elections. Inflation is crazy and people are getting poorer. He got elected 18 years ago because the economy was destroyed, but he’s making it worse now. He’s forcing religiousness but I think it’s backfiring. The internet is real and with the current economy trajectory no young person sees hope in this country. A lot of people (especially young) are thinking “If these people are Muslim, then why am I?”. I do think there’s hope though because the new mayors of big cities are trying to create jobs or help people, but the government is restricting them from doing so, the average person sees this and starts doubting the government. The opposition is finally able to put his party on the spot. But I don’t think we could ever be in a civil war. We never had a civil war before and people only vote for stability and money in Turkey. I don't know why you interpreted my comment as "your country is ****" to be insulted by it. I clearly was referring to calling turkey the best country in the middle east when the actual arab middle east has suffered under it, when the armenian genocide has not even been acknowledged yet, and especially when turkey has been trying its best to distance itself and dissociate from the middle east. He then ranted on twitter about it, wanting to distance himself from pop and saying he is R&B. Yet at the grammys Yummy wins the award. How annoying would that be to the rest of the pop artists who actually embrace their pop identity and had to suffer through listening to Yummy to be told that Yummy is the best? For me I am someone who looks at the now, not the past. Though Turkey may be the ancestor of the Ottoman Empire there has been a lot of progress in that nation and to be honest it is truly currently one of best nations in the region as it is the most stable, most "free" and most developed at the moment (other than Israel). They do have to apologize for the Armenian genocide though. If they do that I think it will heal a lot of tension in the Middle East and I hope it starts a new chapter in the Levant and South Caucasus region. That said, it certainly will not be Erdogan that does that. He likes to divide people and create controversy to distract from his failure as a leader in recent years. I think the next leader of Turkey will for sure be a lot more liberal. The people there are getting really tired of Erdogan and I sense his time is up. I am struggling to understand how Turkey cannot be called a beautiful country because of its past but other countries can? The countries that the Ottoman Empire ruled over had also caused a lot of destruction to native populations and thrived with slavery before the Turks came (Byzantines, Ummayad Caliphate, Persia). Does this automatically disqualify Greece, Arab countries and Iran from being “beautiful” or a “best” country in someone’s eyes? According to your logic, other countries deserve to be beautiful and one of the best countries in the Middle East but Turkey doesn’t, because of its past and current politics. I can name at least half of the countries in the Middle East that do not treat their citizens as they should, do not have democracy, have a bad history or are currently causing disruption in the region. With your logic any woman or LGBT person would be offended by calling any country in the Middle East as “beautiful“. Is there a list of countries in the Middle East that embrace being a beautiful and great country like other pop artists who “embrace their pop identity”.
