Turkey's Erdogan denounces LGBT youth

Turkey's president has lashed out at the country's LGBT movement amid a wave of student protests.

President of Turkey : Erdogan praised the youth wing of his ruling AK Party for carrying the "glorious history of this nation" and not being "LGBT youth".
He said :" "We will carry our young people to the future, not as the LGBT youth, but as the youth that existed in our nation's glorious past."
"You are not the LGBT youth, not the youth who commit acts of vandalism. On the contrary, you are the ones who repair broken hearts."
 

The protests have been going on for a month but tension has never been that high. Now calls are being made for fresh protests across Turkey in support of the Bogazici students who were arrested in Istanbul over a piece of artwork that reportedly combined LGBT symbols with an image of an Islamic site on Sunday.

A total of 159 people were detained on Monday,  although about 100 were released the next day.

Homosexuality is legal in Turkey but official opposition to the LGBT community has grown in recent years.

We, the people, need to take control over any and every single country leader. The new order of things should be all of us first - for our future, for our present, and for our honorable past. This man, happens to be a powerful man, puts his arrogance first, his country folks second and the rest of the world much behind. War is never the solution, but we must fight against leaders who put us in danger. Once you understand this, you are one step closer to seeing Earth as actually one big country that needs to be united. he needs to STOP ruining one of the best and most beautiful nations in Eastern Europe & the Middle East. Turkey is literally one of a kind and this man is making things so much worse. Turkey is one of the FIRST nations in all of Europe to have legalized same sex relations yet this man keeps taking big and small steps backwards undoing what many of his precedessors have done. It's one thing to be conservative and it is another to ruin a beautiful legacy...ugh

Also, Turkey has a trans diva, Bulent Ersoy. Like Aretha Franklin or Diana Ross of Turkey is trans, u imagine. Erdogan parties with her, accepts her or other rich LGBT people. Trans or gay, he really meets and has no problem with them. Rich LGBT people has no problem living here. It is the poor ones.

But, to public. He is this cruel person. Just to get accepted more and more by conservatives.

He can be re-elected as much he can. Even someone gets %55 and he gets %45 he will.

He has all the army under his control. City wise, Istanbul objected when he forcefully declared that he got Istanbul. But, even if he loses the country, he WİLL control all the voting system. It happened before.

I really don't want to live on this planet anymore.  The outright hatred toward minority groups and those that are "other" to any nation is infuriating, saddening, anxiety inducing, etc.  I long for the day when marginalized people can live in peace or not even have to out themselves (but not necessarily assimilate by becoming normalized either).

In the US, I have a hunch (based partly in the reaction to BLM), that there is still a covert (perhaps more overt) hatred toward LGBTQ+ people.

Hopefully we see progressive changes as time goes on -- moving away from nationalism and hateful rhetoric.  Though I'm not sure where the world is going with impending crises that could benefit from international cooperation (e.g., climate change, heading to space, wealth gaps, etc).

I definitely borrow from Gaga when I say that, each day, I try to live halfway between fantasy and reality -- because reality really blows most of the time

He is losing a lot of support so he’s trying to distract the GP by targeting the LGBT community, sadly it won’t work. People are getting poorer each day and he is not as untouchable as he used to be. Before, his party would target the opposition and create clashes as it brought his base together, but now people are HUNGRY and considering the opposition as an opportunity, I don’t see this working for him.

Tomorrow he’ll forget about the LGBTQI and target women, then seculars, then Kurds, the classic method. He is vile and I hope our country gets rid of him ASAP, we have a long democratic history, we need to show the world that these people can be defeated!
