PartySick 145,729
I didn't quite know how to title this I felt it'd be a bit disrespectful to post in the thread about her passing. I've never heard of SOPHIE (I also don't know if you're supposed to capitalize the name all the time ) until the rumors of Gaga working with her started. I never looked her up afterwards either. But seeing how devastated some people are got me curious to see what she was about. I'm sure others are probably curious too. So, SOPHIE fans, share your favorite songs, videos, stories, etc below to let us know why she was great and why she'll be missed

Jose P 23,341
Well she has two albums, one is a compilation of her early singles and it’s called PRODUCT, and she has a full on album called Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-insides. These are highlights of each (in my opinion): Spoiler An unreleased song: With other artists: Also a quick listen to a few of these songs will prove that her production was more than “pots and pans” music (to the fans who didn’t want her to work with Gaga and continuously pointed out the pots and pans thing)
TheSlash 14,539
What I liked most about SOPHIE is that she had a completely different view on music and didn't shy away from introducing music that wasn't what was conceived as conventional. While I understand that the music is not everyone's cup of tea you can't deny that she was way ahead of her time and revolutionized the way music is made. My favorite interview with her is this one where she explains what she does and why she does it. Also, the stories she was able to tell and the atmosphere she was able to set without a single word is just mind-blowing to me. In "Infatuation" she was able to catch the feeling of being infatuated in the music. In "Pretending", she let me feel like drowning, as she later did with the "Infatuation" remixes on the second disc of her remix album. But my favorite song has to be "Whole New World/Pretend World" . While the first part of the song has a really depressing feel to it, it gets more uplifting in the second part and feels like reaching the end of something with confidence. I will forever cherish her work and keep it in my heart . Ew, David!
Ronk 14,492
Sophie co-wrote Madonna’s 2015 single, “Bitch I’m Madonna.” This instrumental of the song is also credited to Sophie: https://soundcloud.com/tankyu_alt/bitch-im-madonna-instrumental I live outside the space time continuum. Bloody hooker 6,445
I’m a fan of SOPHIE, and she is a inspiration to me for my own music. I discovered her sometime in 2018. Her music started to change the overall tone of pop, electronic, and house music, because she was making really unique sounds that no one had heard before (at least mainstream). (Flume and Eprom’s remix) (This was released three days ago) As some Gaga fans/stans label her sound as “pots and pans”, her sound is somewhat complex that no one will ever be able to replicate it to 100%. In music producer terms, her sound production most likely consist of: frequency modulation (FM) of sound waves, modulating cutoff and resonance, using reverb and various other effects, and most importantly (but not exclusive) using recorded samples of real objects (ex. BloodPop’s mention of SOPHIE recording Gaga’s Lamborghini exhaust). She probably also used Modular Synthesis. This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare. SlipAway 880
I remember my pal sent me a zippyshare file titled SOPHIE - LEMONADE (which she later officially released as PRODUCT?) in late 2015 and I was like ‘wait, that’s really cool’. The sound was distinctive and absolutely unique, I got hooked up instantly because I’m like a crackhead, I LOVE erratic and loud beats. 2 days later Charli XCX’s Vroom Vroom gets leaked and whew the rest is history. Peroxide555 587
This is probably her most “straightforward” pop song... it’s f*cking beautiful, I listen to it all the time. She was an incredibly versatile producer, she could do the avant garde industrial sh*t, but at the same time she knew what made a brilliant pop tune.
