Dixie d'amelio is facing backlash 4 her privileged comments about college

TikToker Dixie D'Amelio did Vogue's "24 Hours With" series, where she basically documented what she does in a day.

Eventually, Dixie brought up the the topic of college.

"I fully got into college [in] August of 2019, and I decided not to go just because traveling back and forth was going to be a lot," she said.

"I was also really scared because I saw someone make a TikTok, saying that they would play my songsat a frat party. That's really what like turned me away from going to school because I don't think I could handle that level of embarrassment,” she said.

Obviously, college is super expensive and such a privilege in this country. So many people struggle to find the financial means to attend, and so many also struggle with the financial burden of paying off loans afterwards.

So, of course, her comments about just not wanting to go to college because a frat might play her song were not met with praise.

After watching the video — which now has over 31,000 dislikes on YouTube — a lot of people were just like, "WOW."

And people also had one basic question: "Who would play a Dixie song at a frat party?????"

if she doesn’t want to attend college that’s her problem and shouldn’t be anyone else’s. i’m pretty sure she didn’t say that to deliberately offend people. many and i mean MANY people drop out of college for even more pointless reasons. why should dixie’s education choices be anyone’s business? 

i don’t know nor care for this Dixie chick tbh, but what she said really isn’t that offensive. she is doing her own thing and making her own money. she shouldn’t be facing backlash for this honestly. 

also that wasn’t even the main reason why she dropped out. she literally stated in the beginning she dropped out because of the pressure of travelling back n fourth.

Judging from the comments on YouTube, the video isn't just getting heat because of the college thing, all of the top comments mock her general attitude displayed in the video like coming late to business meetings because she was busy watching videos on TikTok, her being generally inept and not able to cook a meal for herself, complaining about hating eggs & cheese before she's eating literally eggs & cheese and saying things like "I have my mom do all my things for me, because that's just what mom's do".  

The only top comment that talks about college says "She should have gone to college because all she does is talk gibberish". I feel like this is a case of "media needs scandalous headline because CANCEL CULTURE, we pick 5 comments about the video that weren't prominent at all but let's make this a THING"

Also I gotta say... her "starting her day" with full on carved brows and fake eyelashes.  I think... this is just a famous teenager who's in her cringe phase right now, but unaware about how cringy she is.

Also, don't people preach about college being a "choice" anyway? Like, I always hear people go, "College isn't for everyone. It's okay if you don't go, because you could do x, y, or z." If people are preaching that, then shouldn't they be applauding her for making a decision that was best for her?

At the end of the day, it's her education and she decides what she wants to do with this. This isn't like an Olivia Jade situation where she cheated her way into getting into college. That's a valid complaint. This is nothing.

I don’t get the backlash  if she doesn’t want to go to college then she doesn’t have to... not every rich person has to go to college to understand that there are others out there who cannot afford college and want to go.

I know a lot of people who stopped going to college cause they don't get anything from an online education and prefer to go when the virus is over.  

I feel like college in the US is not necessary. I'm from an Asian family so they all push for college but then i know people who did not go to College and just went to trade school after high-school and is earning in 6 figures now. She got a thing going for her now and a source if income. College is really just to get a better paying job. If you already have something that pays, why go?

Well... if making money at job you don’t hate is the end goal, why does Dixie even need a degree? She’s already a celeb. That’s the context I’ll excuse her being annoyed by long travel times while most have to put up with it. She doesn’t need to put with it. And we can discuss her privilege as part of the convo too but it’s not the full story
