Hair is a masterpiece in both dance & piano versions.

By the way Gaga has far more overproduced songs on ARTPOP than Hair, and a lot of Monsters are not ready to admit it :billie:

Yes ARTPOP is just as busy as BTW regarding the instrumentals, but at least most of the songs on ARTPOP are as clear as crystal with clean masterful production. (Proper ear candy like Gaga said herself).

The production on BTW is very muddy sometimes, e.g. the chorus in Hair. Yes it's an aesthetic choice so thats fine but I personally think all the vocal distortion they used takes more than it gives.

I'm fine, Ta

When it first came out, I was of the opinion that it was over produced epicness.. now I just think it’s epic.

It just need a remastering session on her past album (TF / TFM / BTW / ARTPOP) to make it clearer and cleaner but at the end of the day it doesn't need any production changes in my opinion.

I'd honestly say Hair is technically 'under produced' rather than over.

As much as I love this song it sounds closer to a demo than a polished song. It needs a lot more time and care in the mixing and mastering to get that fresh clean sound, which would have made the song sound far less busy and muddled. That would have lifted the song and made it seem way more powerful and evocative, and would have allowed all the elements (the vocals, backing vocals, synths, saxophone, piano etc) to shine through way more.

(The same can be said for most of BTW tbf but I still love it and can defo dig that style regardless).

Less is more sometimes.

You guys saying ARTPOP is 'over produced' really confuses me.

Can someone explain what you guys actually mean?

Because I studied music technology for two yrs and imo ARTPOP has some of the best and cleanest production in her entire discography. Also the vocal production is top level so congrats to whoever was in charge of that aspect. Her voice has never sounded so big and clear.

The songs are rly busy and chaotic yes but the actual production and mastering of the instrumentals and vocals are clear, crisp and polished to high heaven. There's hardly a single beat out of place.

There are subtle technical mistakes on BTW and even on Chromatica but hardly any on ARTPOP.

So ye, please explain what you guys actually mean.

I love the acoustic live piano version of Hair. So I guess that I think that no production is the best production!

In my opinion yes, like the rest of the album.

But it works. BTW wasn't meant to be minimalistic.

Yea a little. Also don't need think she needed the "h-hh-h-hair" stuttering part.

Hair sounds great when it's played just by her and her band, like on the BTWB. I love the lyrics.

I love Hair but not this production of it.  I prefer the videos of live performances.  And I love Hair as a ballad.

I live outside the space time continuum.
