While I appreciate that Gaga and her team collaborated with Oreo's to make a pink cookie and a team of top secret military scientists to create a pink virus, only seeing the results of the Oreo's collab now so far into the era and only seeing the close up reveal of COVID-19 now after it's been DOMINATING for so long just seems like.... Is there even a point?

It's a "real photo" (electron micrograph), but the coloring is artificial. (Electron microscopes don't take color images.)

The Covid-19 virus has often been represented as white with red spikes (here, pink, but close enough), from the beginning. I dunno why; maybe there's a good reason. But... visible light has a wavelength of 400-700 nanometers, while the virus is only 60-140 nm. So, I'm not sure it's even meaningful to speak of the virus' colors.
