How is this AT ALL RELEVANT to 2021

You’re obviously peddling your own agenda bye bye

Also you’re being completely disingenuous. Obama didn’t separate kids from families and put them in cages.

What does “peddling your own agenda” even mean?

Yes we all have an “agenda” I guess. You peddle yours and I peddle mine.

Obama deported more people than Trump and he constructed those cages. That is pertinent information.

I'm as far left as they come, and I will always be the first to criticize liberals and neolibs on their enabling of the rise of fascism. Maybe I misinterpreted your first reply, but to me that message was just about Trump's specific failures as a president and his own policy that worsened the issue, which was why I replied how I did. I think we need to be unafraid to call fascism what it is especially now, and it came across to me like you were downplaying Trump's contribution

Yeah, you misinterpreted.

Speaking of locking people up, let’s hope he and Harris enact sweeping criminal justice changes, too. Like releasing non-violent drug offenders; decriminalizing/legalizing pot federally (and all drugs, imho); expunging felony records; give prisoners the right to vote; etc.

The bar is pretty low and I’m not here for Biden’s neoliberal politics (or even calls for unity. I’m not unifying with neo-nazis and fascists), but I’m hopeful Bernie and The Squad have made a big enough splash to move us more progressively. Bring on the leftist executive orders, please!

You know who built the cages, right?

You know Obama used separations for children and adults, right? He didn’t separate children from their parents.

“Both sides” won’t work in this situation.

So that makes the cages okay? Cool.

Prisoners don’t deserve the right to vote.

Opposition to neoliberalism and its figureheads like Obama and Pelosi does not equal support of Trump or fascism.

I’m a socialist lmao

You mentioned the world ‘liberal’ and the first thing that came to my mind is Trump.

How did this thread turn from people are FINALLY going to have a path to citizenship to, ONCE AGAIN, talking about how Obama built the cages?

I get it. I’m a progressive. I know the narratives. The Obama Administration was **** to immigrants. But can we, for once, acknowledge that this is a step in the right direction?

I agree on whole but think it should depend on how long is left on term (and also whether release is likely, but that is too administrative)

I agree, as the saying going - if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

That's what this gang of "progressives" on GGD do. They derail ever thread about a Democrat by smearing them with irrelevancies.

And they abuse the f*ck out of reactions, like @ALGAYDO, which is why I call them the can't-react-crew :billie:

Welcome!

They were used to keep younger children away from adult strangers, so yes, they were okay then. The government kept minors away from adult strangers and actively looked for relatives in the US that the minors could be sent to.

That situation is completely different than Trump separating parents from young children.

Who constructed the cages that are being further abused right now is certainly relevant.

In regard to immigration as a whole, Obama deported more immigrants.

Yes, I know this, but many liberals on GGD don’t seem ready to engage with the corruption/atrocities of the Obama admin.

No one denies the atrocities of previous administrations. The US will most likely never have a truly leftist government without a popular revolution, we don’t expect leftist policies and actions from politicians and leaders who aren’t leftist to begin with. But to deny the fact that the Trump administration justified, enabled and proliferated hate groups and hateful behaviour towards minorities is blindness, and the prior incompetence of leaders before him doesn’t excuse that. He made hate become mainstream and have a platform in a way it hadn’t since JFK. As bad as democratic administrations have ALSO been (they’re ALL war criminals beyond repentance), hateful public behaviour has never been as vehement as this.
