Scientists in Germany have discovered a new mutation of the Covid-19 virus in the Bavarian municipality of Garmisch-Patenkirchen. The strain is in no relation to the previously described British and South Afrian strains that have been found previously.

Whether the new strain is more infectious is not not know at this point right now.

Really gonna need some stats on how often viruses mutated during past pandemics, thanks

It's extremely often that they mutate, this is why we have a slightly altered flu vaccine most years. It's just in the news with covid alot as it's of interest and click bait to a certain degree. Unless it mutates alot I don't think we have anything to worry about in the immediate. Also if there is a massive change in the virus I think that the pharma companies said it'll take about 6 weeks for them to change stuff in the vaccine
