Defense officials fear possible inside attack at inauguration

It's better that they fear this because they will eventually be a lot more prepared for it even if nothing problematic happens. It's the inauguration of the president of the US so of course they will do the best for things to be safe especially now with knowing what happened 2 weeks ago.

Scale it down and have Gaga be televised PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Be televised? I'd rather not see her get shot on live TV. They need to virtually digitalise the event or something, with a reduced attendence.

It's natural to be worried when you hear that they fear an attack, but it should be reassuring in a way - it's better that they are concerned for it and are actively taking measures to detect/prevent any such plans from going ahead. I'd be more worried if they were saying 'everything is fine, there are no concerns'.

There is always a threat to the safety of any POTUS: they have a massive target on their head from both foreign and domestic terrorists, of course the latter threat appears to be significantly greater this time around. What happened at the Capitol is terrifying and shouldn't be downplayed (especially so the more we hear about what was really planned to happen), but it at least means that they have some idea of what they're up against.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have alternative (safer) arrangements that they're planning to go ahead with and will switch to "at the last minute" that they're not making public yet. Could very well be the case that performances have already been pre-recorded.

Gaga has to live with this all the time to some extent. All celebs do, but her more so because she is a hate figure for the extreme right. There is a real possibility that a person or persons will try to do something terrible on Wednesday. I think it is unlikely that anything terrible will happen, but it is possible. If I was a serious-minded terrorist I think I might let Wednesday go at this stage and wait till things settle down a bit before I tried anything, or maybe I'd be looking at one of the other capitols where the target might be softer. I don't like even having to think in these terms, but this is where we are.

I think it IS important that they perform the ceremony in the traditional place. This isn't a Sunday afternoon picnic or a pop concert, there is a lot at stake for the whole world in what is going on in the US at the moment. Wednesday will be an important day in history, and Gaga will be right at the centre of it for a few minutes. I wish to f--k she wasn't, but she will be.

I hate this. This is the one time I wish Gaga would not be so political and that she'd just stay home :saladga:

Guys... if something bad happens they won’t be there for Gaga. They’ll be there for the Dems. I understand the concern but to speculate about Gaga being shot is ridiculous. She’s not the target.

Y'all, the fear mongering has to stop.

Yes, it's sane to be fearful, but the event is going to be very well guarded. These concerns they have are general planning, and the vetting will be sufficient to figure out if any of these guardsmen are radicalized enough to try something. Gaga will be fine. Biden will be fine.

I have support in Gaga that she wouldn't put herself in danger, if she didn't feel that the security at this huge historical event was sufficient. I think that she knows what she is doing or that she would back out at the last minute. One can't run from everything and when the possibilities of danger are so high, just after a domestic terror event, levels of security are going to be ever greater now and over the top. Let's hold on to hope that all will be safe and the ceremony will go smooth and be a celebratory occasion.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
