NYT:

McConnell is said to be pleased about impeachment, believing it will be easier to purge Trump from the G.O.P.

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting on Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country.

At the same time, Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the minority leader and one of Mr. Trump’s most steadfast allies in Congress, has asked other Republicans whether he should call on Mr. Trump to resign in the aftermath of the riot at the Capitol last week, according to three Republican officials briefed on the conversations.

Yup. Great that he is behind this, but further proof that he's got no actual moral center. He was fine to support Trump's every whim until he outlasted his usefulness.

I think at this point Democrats need to embrace any support they can get if we really wanna see this happen :teehee:

I've been trying to say thing from the start, Republicans MUST turn on Trump now, or they risk being slave to him for the next decade (or however long he lives/is not more plagued by dementia).

We can hold them to account after we get Trump outta here. At the end of the day, removing Trump from the republican party not only saves us from that trash, but will absolutely weaken Republicans chances down ballot. I don't like to make predictions like this, but I think we could be looking at a significantly smaller Republican party after all the Trumpist go back to their meth labs.

I don’t believe these insiders right now. Just a few days ago they were saying Pence was furious with Trump and then yesterday the two met and were best bitches.

Well girlies, we'll know later this week if he decides to have a spine I suppose!

I hope he moves forward with the trial asap. There's nothing to investigate in the articles of impeachment, it is self evident from literally all of congress being the almost-victims of his mob.

Exactly. I’m so skeptical of McConnell though and the GOP in general.

Im just going to wait and see what happens.

Trump wants Pence to pardon him if he gets impeached or removed before the inauguration.

Exactly. McConnell has been a coward for years, but if he gives his support now, there's actually hope they could move quickly and whip enough Republican votes in the Senate. Let's see.
