A Dutch TV network has filmed border officials confiscating ham sandwiches, muesli, orange juice and other foods from drivers arriving in the Netherlands from the UK, under post-Brexit rules.

The officials were shown explaining import regulations imposed since the UK formalised its separation from the EU.

Under EU rules, travellers from outside the bloc are banned from bringing in meat and dairy products, fruits, vegetables, fishes.

The UK officially finished its formal separation from the EU on 31 December, 2020 and stopped following EU rules, with new arrangements for travel, trade, immigration and security co-operation coming into force.

Surely that's just for trade and not literally personal possession. I hope UK gives EU drivers the same authoritarian treatment

I mean, that's the law so..

The Government just need to make sure that we in the UK are doing the same back to their drivers. Only fair.

i think its about food hygiene legislation since UK isn't part of the EU anymore. for example, in south america, you can't enter Chile with an apple lol

The EU does not allow for meat, meat products, milk and dairy products for personal consumption to be brought in from countries outside the union.
These border officials are just doing what they have to. EU has food standards and since UK stopped following EU rules they can't let UK citizens bring this food.

The EU doesn't allow meat, milk or dairy products to be brought in from so called '3rd' countries (countries outside the union). Personal consumption is no exception because meat and diary products can contain pathogens causing animal disease.

The UK wanted out, so now they have to follow the same rules as other non-european countries. Plain and simple.
