The CEO of gab literally tweeted something like wow it would be a shame if the Capitol rioters breached the Capitol right now wink wink (moments before they actually did)

That man should be arrested

He’s joined this essentially twitter rip off page but it has no apps or moderation n ****. Its another shithole site for his neofascist supporters. Tragically, it also has it’s own servers, so it cant be taken down like the other far right app Parler, as Amazon just did so recently.

It doesn't really matter if it has its own servers, the government can take it down if deemed a threat to national security.

I live outside the space time continuum.

No, but they can show warnings if you try to go to a dangerous site. Chromium is open-source if I remember correctly, which is basically already a "public" browser, in that everyone can compile the code & make their own browser.

I agree with you but I also have a really hard time considering integrating with neonazis, fascists and fundamentalist religious bigots. I don’t want a war and would prefer peace. But, as a queer person, these crazies terrify me and I sure as hell don’t want them reintegrated. They need a thorough wordview shift, empathy, etc. Not sure how that will happen when they downplay experts and science  eek!

I really hear you, though, because group and intragroup divisiveness will tear the group and society apart. Perhaps we deserve it as a inequitable, non-sustainable system we live in. But I didn’t want to see so much harm done.

Trump is a symptom, not just a sickness.

We live in a society that is afraid of being honest to each other. I believe you can put it that simple and that is what I believe is the sickness. "Fake news" is really just a sign of mistrust in official institutions and the people who work for it. When you're being represented by officials that you cannot trust anymore you become frustrated, angry and vulnerable for manipulation by political ideals that serves for the few who are the powerful behind them. All these protests against COVID measurements for example are really just an outburst of questions why we people (I am writing "we" on purpose) should accept these measure when they are coming from institutions that aren't trustworthy in the first place.

These powerful people who are actively working on reaching their ideals will make you think storming the Capitol is a revolution that in the end makes your personal situations better but really is a manipulative effort to further radicalize their base. Now the people who stormed the Capitol will not be satisfied as long as their situations have changed for the better. Throwing them into jail is not going to make their livelihood enjoyable. Now, I totally get your point that reintegration of extremely radicalised people may only be an extremely complex and costly process for not producing the desired outcome: peace but maybe reconciliation is a better term for what I was trying to say. Because we need to trust each other again. That is what reconciliation is about and that is only accessible if we're being honest about what has happened so people start listening again. I believe that the Democrats are not honest by searching an enemy they can throw tantrums to. That is only going to radicalise their base and do nothing for a majority of people who voted for Trump in November. There is a genuine reason afterall why still so many people voted for Trump as there is why so many people believe Trump is a lunatic. He maybe really is but even that isn't the entire truth. Deescalation happens when you're listening and setting back your ego. I am maybe too idealistic but this is what comes to my mind when I am looking at everything that happens with politics not only in the US but all around the world. We've become such huge egos individually that it's almost impossible to have a genuine conversation. That is what I think is the sickness and Trump really is just a symptom.

The thing about Trump is he craves validation from the very people who loathe him. I don't think he really cares for his base beyond what they can do for him. He's not going to be happy being on some two-bit marginal social media platform.

I'd also like to remind people that many of the folks who rioted at the Capitol are wealthy, privileged people, as you can see from the news of people who've been arrested (CEOs of big companies, etc.). A lot of Trump supporters aren't supporting him because they are hurting; they're supporting him because they're freaking white supremacists. I have no desire to make peace with these people. Zero. They went to the Capitol with the intent to murder our government. They had firearms, bombs, zip ties, and they made a *noose* which apparently was to hang Mike Pence if the rumors are correct. I don't want to understand them; I want them in prison.

The Gab account, as far as I know, is a mirror of Trump’s now-deleted Twitter account. No evidence he has actually joined this platform.

The advantage to putting the far right extremists on a place like Gab is that there are far fewer recruitment paths; if we get this nonsense off of Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, there is far less chance someone will accidentally find it and start falling down the rabbit hole in to conspiracy theory land.

Born This Way

I remember Gab from my 2016/17 phase of being into anti-sjw creators. They were all promoting it but then there was some drama and everyone I watched dropped it.
