Justin Trudeau is telling Canadians to stop claiming quarantine income benefits after returning from vacations as that was never what the benefits were intended for

 

The quarantine benefits were intended to replace lost income during quarantines from people who had to miss work due to being sick with coronavirus, or awaiting a test or that came into contact with someone who had covid and had to quarantine as well

 

But it has come to the attention that many Canadians were doing unessential travel for vacation which is followed by a 2 week mandatory quarantine and then just claiming the benefits to which the Prime Minister made clear that's not what it was intended for

 

The Government will now put in measures to exclude travellers from applications

If the government makes it hard to get benefits people who genuinely need it and are struggling have a hard time getting it and get delays... When the government gets generous and makes it easy people who don't actually need it abuse the system

 

You can never win

 

Also I know the government had never specified before u couldn't use it if u were returning from vacation but seriously that should be common sense. Like get with it people

I mean what he’s saying it’s true. If you go on vacations to claim afterward, then that’s abusing the relief. And strict impositions should then be enforced

Tbh. Like I'm surprised at how easy the government has made cash available in general (for most ppl anyway individual circumstances are always unique when it comes to qualifying). 

 

In a way that's good. Making it quick for ppl to get relief they need without long delays and beaureocracy.

 

But on the flip side the mass abuse was predictable. 

 

I actually know 2 people personally that claimed CERB even tho they didn't loose their job. And 1 additional guy who did loose his work and claimed CERB legitimately but was taking his sweet time looking for a new job because the befit was available for months

Inevitably many will get away with it tho even after the warning. It's too many claims to keep track of and they won't have the time or man power to validate or verify every claim

 

Many will get granted and not double checked and abuse overlooked because there's no way to verify this much unprecedented volume in claims for benefits and I don't blame them. Agencies don't normally operate with the amount of staff to deal with pandemic like volumes

As much as I long for the day we get to travel freely again, non-essential is such a terrible idea right now, and to think people engage in scams like this on top of it, arghhh.

Doesn't help either how so many MPs travelled over the holidays, really sending out the wrong message.

I don't get why the country doesn't shut down non essential travel though. Like as long as it's still an option obviously there will be ppl travelling and obviously scams will occur.

The sheer number of politicians that did that was beyond infuriating. It wasn't even just 1 or 2 that made a bad judgement call. There's literally been like a dozen MPs and other politicians caught like seriously...

 

Don't tell ppl to stay home then pull that bad example
