Right now the needle is 66% Ossoff (D) winning; 80% Warnock (D) winning.Β  This despite the chance that the current tally is Ossoff -1.8%, Warnock -1.1%. What’s happening, you ask?

DeKalb county (eastern area of downtown Atlanta) is what’s happening. That place only has 37% of their vote reported right now, and they both have a large population and are sapphire blue. So, once their results come in, it’s very likely Ossoff and Warnock will catch up (there are other blue areas with remaining votes, but the big one is DeKalb).

Well yeah but I’m liking the odds. Weeks ago, the republicans were the fave to win.Β

Lumpkin County and Floyd County, two north-Georgia counties that broke hard for Trump, are yet to report any results tonight per Politico's map (which I think uses AP). It is not aΒ lotΒ of votes, but a strong turnout for Loeffler and Perdue would help to at least partially offset Dekalb

The guy behind the Cook Political report has already called it for Warnock:

What we’re seeing right now is another β€œred mirage”: The small rural counties which are ruby red in Georgia (One day, all of the Chick Fil A restaurants in a red Georgia county I lived in at the time were swarmed with customers making a stand for homophobia) have made their tallies available, but the areas around Atlanta which are sapphire blue (I remember this Black man telling me, in a blue Georgia county when we drove there to hang out with some people, that you just could not vote Republican and be a decent person) haven’t counted their votes yet.

It’s going to be another long night.

Republicans have taken a narrow lead in the tabulated vote, but the Democrats are clear favorites in both races. The overwhelming majority of remaining votes are in the Atlanta metro area, and while the race remains competitive, there's no indication that the Republicans are poised to outperform expectations. The big Democratic vote left: the DeKalb County early vote. We expect these 170,000 votes to break for Ossoff by an 85-15 margin.
