Pharmacist accused of spoiling vaccine believed it would change ppl’s DNA

The pharmacist accused of intentionally spoiling nearly 600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at a clinic made his initial appearance in a Wisconsin court Monday.

Steven Brandenburg is the pharmacist accused of intentionally spoiling vials of vaccine.

Brandenburg removed the box containing the vaccine from a refrigerator and let it out for 12 hours, rendering it useless. 

Brandenburg told investigators that he believed the vaccine was not safe for people and would "harm them and change their DNA," the probable cause said. 

Brandenburg, according to the Grafton Police Department, is an "admitted conspiracy theorist." 

Brandenburg was arrested on Dec. 31 

Officials say 57 people did receive the vaccine after it was left out, but they do not believe those people are in any danger.

It's scary isn't it, the rise of the likes of q anon and extreme twitter and Facebook groups. One of my staff (she's a 60 year old woman) refuses to take the vaccine, has told all her family not to take the vaccine, because she is adamant that it'll render them all infertile and we will all be fine if we just take more vitamin C  she proceeds to show me sketchy Facebook videos of disgraced doctors who aren't even epidemiologists and swears by it. She also believed the 5g conspiracy and called some of my other staff sheeple

Um, I'm not taking the vaccine. Not because of these theories, but just because it was created within a year. How come it was so easy to crate a vaccine for covid, that's killing millions, yet we haven't found a cure for hiv or cancer?

 OK, well number 1, cancer isn't comparable to covid as it isn't a virus, basically cancer in lamens terms is the division of cells that accelerates rapidly until they clump and form a tumour. Treatments are getting better but you can't vaccinate against it really. And HIV is a far more complex virus because of the way it works. It changes rapidly and vaccines are typically made to mimic the immune reaction of recovered people

However, almost no people have recovered after contracting HIV. As a result, there’s no immune reaction that vaccines can mimic. also hiv creates 'reservoirs of dormant virus within the body therefore never triggering any form of response or reaction.

Because covid isn't an all together new thing (sars already existed) and because there was such investment and huge demand for the vaccine.

Availability of vaccines at the moment is so limited that such behaviour needs harsh sanctions, the world can't afford to waste any of these doses people are working day and night to produce.

"This family of viruses had tried to jump from animals to people twice before in the past 20 years - Sars coronavirus in 2002 and Mers coronavirus in 2012. It meant scientists knew the virus's biology, how it behaved and its Achilles heel - the "spike protein". "We had a huge head start," Prof Andrew Pollard from the Oxford team said.

The spike protein is the key the virus uses to unlock the doorway into our body's cells. If a vaccine could train the immune system to attack the spike, then the team knew they were odds-on to succeed. And they had already developed a ChAdOx1 vaccine for Mers, which could train the immune system to spot the spike. The Oxford team were not starting from scratch. "If this had been a completely unknown virus, then we'd have been in a very different position," Prof Pollard added.

To put it in simpler terms - Covid is very similar to SARS and MERS; two viruses that have had vaccines in development for years. They were never finished due to funding being cut (and the epidemics dying out), but there was a framework ready that only needed the last bit of research left. And when you have every scientist and virologist on the planet working on finishing it... well, this should come to no surprise.

As for HIV and Cancer, well that's a completely different story. The HIV virus hides all over the body, and stays dormant for sometimes years. If it's in your nodes, you can't exactly get it out of there, so it just replicates over and over. You can become undetectable, but there will always be a few hiding and lying dormant that are basically immortal.

Cancer isn't a virus. It can be caused by viruses, but it's more of a phenomenon that has to do with your body recreating cells. I'm sure google could give you plenty of valid reasons why cancer cannot be cured.

I agree. I don't even consider myself a conspiracy theorist but I gotta stay, all the information that's been floating around the Internet since the pandemic started made me seriously question everything at some point. I hate to say it but I've become vulnerable to misinformation (anxiety doesn't help, it's easier to believe everyone is out to get you when you're scared) and it's becoming harder to differentiate fact from conspiracy theories. I honestly can't even make fun of conspiracy theorists anymore, the pandemic has made us vulnerable and anxious, and I think people just need something to hold on to at this point.
