@StrawberryBlond to answer your last point, I exclusively stream my music rather than buy because of the price. I am currently studying and receiving very little money and if I actually bought my music it would cost me loads whereas with streaming I am consistency supporting artists and at the mercy of my fingers I have access to 60 million+ songs for £4.99 whereas if I bought music I wouldn’t have access to all that music. I am a great supporter of streaming but I do believe streaming will improve in the future.

I get that but my point is that you'd think with all these millions of supposed fans, more of them would at least be buying the album. Most people I know have a handful of artists for whom they buy the albums of, so you'd think with literally billions of streamers on their roster, these artists would sell a lot more than they actually are. By the looks of things, less than 10% of their fans actually buy their music. Just saying it doesn't look very good. I think buying an artist's album is the bare minimum you can do as a fan, even if you can't buy every single and go see them on tour. So to see that the majority don't do that, it really makes you wonder how many of them streamers are fans of the majority of said artist's work or if they just like the singles.

Literally every single one of these examples is rooted on racism. Have you read ALL indian books written in history? Have you tried ALL of Asian kitchen? And why tf can't a black actor play James Bond? Give me a break.

same excuse as when the white gheys say  “no black no asian” because it’s their “preference” lol.

Like the more they try to refute they are a racist the more racist they sound. God help these people.

Gays being racist what’s new lol. Hating on genres rooted in black history and culture, is not a cute look.

The widespread popularity of urban music is heavily due to white people’s adoption of the genre too, though. Be that because of genuine admiration or appropriation, urban is a genre that appeals to every race, evidently.

I genuinely am not a fan of urban music. Does that indicate some sort of racism? I’m curious because it seems like a copout to a much more complex and plural discussion when one states that dislike towards a genre is inherently racist.

Ahh I see your point now. It could quite possibly be the price with the pandemic and people having less money they may be reluctant to buy artists stuff when it can be expensive. I was lucky when Chromatica I had money to spare to buy the CD, vinyl and tape of it or maybe it connivence, people doesn’t see sense in spending all that money to buy a CD etc when they can stream it. The fans may not actually play the CD. I never buy my CDs and I have quite a CDs I collected before streaming became mainstream.

And disliking country music doesn't equal to hating white people, either.

One is music genre, another is the whole race. Jeez....

except country music has been traced to being inspired by blacks during slavery.

also "One is a genre, one is a race" which means they have no correlation, correct?

How much pointless hatred do you bare in your mind? One is disliking a music genre, another is talking about hating certain people. Use your brain and spare the sarcasm on something else, honey.

Many GGD users hate Kpop. I think they're racists now, right?

My friend, a black man, just doesn't like country music. Is he hating white culture or black culture? (lol he doesn't even know the country music origin thing)

Many people dislike urban/country/hip-hop/jazz...... ok I got it.

“I don’t like Rap Music”

Gagadaily: well, you obviously have a problem with black artists. Why are you discrediting black music and black culture! You’re obviously a gay who hates black people, and has underlying racism.”

Me: goes on to blast Whitney Houston, Sade, Toni Braxton in my car.”

SOME OF YOU REACH SO HARD- you honestly look foolish. Just because someone doesn’t like rap, doesn’t mean they are trying to discredit black people. I don’t like Jay Z. I don’t like Eminem: I don’t like rap. And I refuse to let you over sensitive, over reactive twinks speak for me, or anyone who doesn’t like rap. Get over yourself, and check your own issues before you decide to PREACH something you don’t comprehend.

someone said they don't like hip hop/rap right before the post

the problem is when you say urban music which is used interchangably with black music

obviously one can dislike a genre or not understand it but to be confused as to why people are streaming black music. . .

does that not seem wrong???

hard to even fathom which parts you should believe

i haven’t bought albums except maybe a vinyl since 2016. i don’t have the money to pay for streaming and purchasing music. i have a folklore, melodrama and A Star is Born vinyl and that’s all i’ve purchased for my main artists. most of the younger generation is the exact same. my peers dont even buy  vinyls, they just stream. it’s the way the industry is now. (i’m 19, and my younger siblings who are in high school have never in their lives bought a cd, vinyl, single, or anything off of itunes because they don’t need to).

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

I think most people see urban as only hip hop/rap music and not black music in general.

I honestly don't like rap or hip hop or whatever music SOME people may associate with black people. (I don't)

And I honestly think racism exists because other races are mad at black guys big c*cks. And because they f*cked white people's wives even when they were considered slaves. Because nobody can compete with a BBC.  The whole racism thing is a **** size complex of white people. And it's for stupid people. Only stupid people can be racist. This is a brain evolution issue.

Seriously now, how the hell this thread transformed in a discussion about racism?

I'm talking about buying albums in any form, including downloading. I'm in no way saying you have to buy physical copies, vinyls, signed editions, any of that stuff, just choose one way. Whether it's a physical copy or download, why aren't people purchasing their faves albums anymore? My question is, are the majority of their streamers devoted fans or are they just casual listeners of their singles who don't think their albums as a whole are worth buying?

This user never used the term "black music," though. Most people I know use the term "urban music" to refer to artists who make rap, hip hop, trap, RnB or a mixture of those things, regardless of their race. It's a reference to the music's sonic elements, nothing to do with the race of those who invented it or who sing it. Our danders only get up when it's people saying it's urban music they don't like and some start to cite racism. But every other genre gets a free pass. That's why being accused of prejudice over something as simple as disliking a music genre annoys us. Most of are all about the music, nothing else.
