They also occasionally break off sub groups for a project. I think they feel it helps build the fan base for individual artists which helps the group but also gives individuals a creative outlet so they are actually less tempted to drop from the group.

No, definitely not. She always sounds like she has congestion, but her voice does add a different, needed quality to BLACKPINK overall.

Jisoo has a dark low voice even speaking, and she also sounds airy. But her pitch control is really good and if you listen to other Korean girl groups you’ll hear others with similar tone, and Jisoo definitely sings with a heavy Korean accent. I like Jisoo voice it adds a different color. Her speaking voice is so warming I just want to sit and have her talk to me all day lol. 
 

Rose, Lisa and Jennie sound much more western in vocal approach compared to other kpop girls which is also why BP is so popular internationally.  But all four have very distinct tones. Most kpop girls kindof sound like clones.
