Chinese economy to overtake US 'by 2028' due to Covid

China will overtake the US to become the world's largest economy by 2028, five years earlier than previously forecast, a report says.

The UK-based Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) said China's "skilful" management of Covid-19 would boost its relative growth compared to the US and Europe in coming years.

Meanwhile India is tipped to become the third largest economy by 2030.

The CEBR releases its economic league table every year on 26 December.

Although China was the first country hit by Covid-19, it controlled the disease through swift and extremely strict action, meaning it did not need to repeat economically paralysing lockdowns as European countries have done.

As a result, unlike other major economies, it has avoided an economic recession in 2020 and is in fact estimated to see growth of 2% this year.

The US economy, by contrast, has been hit hard by the world's worst coronavirus epidemic in terms of sheer numbers. More than 330,000 people have died in the US and there have been some 18.5 million confirmed cases.

The economic damage has been cushioned by monetary policy and a huge fiscal stimulus, but political disagreements over a new stimulus package could leave around 14 million Americans without unemployment benefit payments in the new year.

Honestly, I think its a bit scary China is becoming the next super power. They have one of the WORST human rights record on the planet. If you think the the USA is bad, China is even worse. And no, this is not racist or xenophobic but its true. You should see what they are doing to the Muslims, minorities, Tibet, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Its scary living in a world with no freedom.

Good thing China can always count on the stupidity of western nations, especially of the US, lol.

I agree, we got played real hard. Faking their numbers, hiding the truth from us, accusing us of starting the virus first, all of that while building a strong economy

Erm, except that all this wouldn't influence how the US handled the pandemic. Which is basically the worst way imaginable.

I mean it's not really how it works though, they can't just stall the world and grow their economy and then maintain a position nobody can catch up to. China's politics are increasingly hostile, solitary and unhumanitarian, there will be a point in the not too distant future where western countries are going to have to withdraw from the country and potentially sanctions may come into play, this article seems to ignore that and will be a giant hit to China's economy when it unfolds. The CCP leadership seem to be blinded by their own power and are flying too close to the sun.

Let's be real: America played itself. The level of incompetence and unprofessionalism was embarrassing and the Chinese were probably laughing the whole time.

Apparently trump made his own personal deadline of how long he would “deal” with the virus :bear: and apparently we’ve passed it and he doesn’t give a flying sh*t anymore :selena: not that he did to begin with but were f*cked.

Economy

I also wanna point out that the real economy and true economic activity of China already surpassed the US

Measuring in GDP (PPP) is a more accurate form of gaging the size of an economy and China already surpassed the US like 2 or 3 years ago

In this article they are talking about nominal GDP which exept for some global market influences, for all intensive purposes isn't really that relevant
