lemme preface this by saying-i love fun tonight

it’s my second favourite on traumatica (after ROM), but there’s one glaring issue-the lyrics. i have a feeling that their simplicity was intentional, because we know what gaga’s capable of. yet, i can’t deny that they’re basic and a lil...tired

so, i decided to rewrite parts of the song/make changes where i personally would if i was given the song

(most of the changes are in the second verse lol)

Veil a feeling that I can't explain

Think it's a wound I still entertain

I'd do anything to numb the flame

I guess I'm just on fire these days

I can't see straight, I can't see me

There's too much hurt caught in between

Wish I could be what I know I can

This moment's hijacked my plans

I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling, I'm feeling with you

I stare at the girl in the mirror, she talks to me too

Yeah, I can see it in your face

You don't think I pull my weight

Maybe I should give in to fears tonight 'cause

I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling, I'm feeling with you

I'm not having fun tonight

You love the drama and love the game

Even though you know it causes me pain

Languishing in an inferno cell

Hoping someone hears me when I yell

“What happens now?

I'm not okay”

‘Cause if I scream, you walk away

When I cry, you won’t take the blame

I've had enough

Why do I stay?

I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling, I'm feeling with you

I stare at the girl in the mirror, she talks to me too

Yeah, I can see it in your face

You don't think I pull my weight

Maybe I should give into fears tonight 'cause

I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling, I'm feeling with you

I'm not having fun tonight

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

I'm not having fun tonight

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

I'm not having fun tonight

Yeah, I can see it in your face

You don't think I pull my weight

Maybe I’ll throw my pride away right noq 'cause

I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling, I'm feeling with you

I'm not having fun tonight

so, any thoughts? anything else yall would change?

not to be rude, but feels like someone used too much google translate and thesaurus writing those :messga: they feel pushed

Did you change “Feeling something that I can’t explain” to “Veil a feeling that I can’t explain”? Some of this isn’t making sense I’m sorry

First, there is nothing basic about the lyrics to Fun Tonight. They're a beautifully crafted look into the mind of a woman who is struggling to embrace her full potential. A woman who "stares into the mirror" and sees someone full of pain and failure. A woman who is so wrapped-up in sorrow she can't enjoy the "fun" of life. A woman longing to turn her life around but can't quite make the step to do it, yet. To even attempt to "fix" the lyrics of Fun Tonight is messing with a pivotal moment on the album.

Your re-imagining of the lyrics is not good. You've removed so many key lyrics and the results are what I'd consider basic lyrics. The magic of the lyrical content of Chromatica is that each song tells a story. When I play the song and go through your lyrics, there is no flow. There's also no soul. It feels like a song one of the bubble-gum pop girls would write. When fans try and re-write or say the lyrics are basic, they're basically insulting Lady Gaga's intelligence. She is more educated and intelligent than any of us on this forum will ever be about songwriting.

This is what happens when you try to fix what isn't broken :bear:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I can't believe you removed "you love the paparazzi, love the fame" like that :udidnt:

The only thing I would change is “you don't think I pull my weight” ➡️“you think I don't pull my weight”

i actually like that lyric, i just wanted to add to the story

this lyric feels like it’s just for the sake of referencing the fame rather than actually adding to the song

that’s the thing, that’s your interpretation

i see it as a song about struggles with self-confidence and self-image. gaga not valuing herself and not giving herself the credit she deserves, and wrapped up in insecurity. but, ultimately, a poorly-written song with cliché analogies and and filler lyrics. i reworked it and added to the story via my own lens.

gaga’s good at writing pop songs, obviously. but that doesn’t mean every song’s perfect lol. some are weaker than others

You made it weaker :selena:

People need to stop coming for this song. When she eventually performs it as a piano ballad it's gonna tear your heart out. The lyrics are perfect and heartbreaking  :tony:
