I hope the US becomes Social Democratic in the future (which is very different from socialism). I do find it weird that Americans have a tendency to...dislike new ideas but at the same time want the benefits from said ideas.

Nah I think it’s that he wants a legacy as being the best most generous leader ever and so he can slap his name on the checks. I don’t think it’s really that much deeper than pure narcissism on his part. He doesn’t give two hoots about the GOP or a vendetta on voters.
