people don't like him because they don't like his music. that's it. everyone hates on him because his music is incredibly generic and has been unfairly favoured in award shows in the past. nobody here thirsts over bieber, at least not in the past three years, stop sexualizing everything and assuming it's just 'gays being gays'. most of the stans here even admit that they liked his older work.

i don’t like ed. his music is, to me, bland. he bashed ellie in one of his songs which i didn’t like. i don’t think he’s a likable person or has listenable songs, and i would prefer not to turn on my radio to 3 different stations and it all be him. has nothing to do with him being ugly.

I think it just has to do with how overrated and EXTREMELY overplayed he is... We’re all just scared about another 4 years of the same song being the most played thing of the radio

Then why do they come on here and start bashing his future work that they haven’t heard? How do they know what his next project sounds like? Sorry I’m not believing that. So many people on here are exactly that sassy and shallow stereotype of gay people. Just look at every hit thread on this forum. People on here need to just get over themselves and not spend pages taking unnecessary jabs at successful people who don’t deserve it. Don’t like his music and don’t want to give him any of your time? Then don’t spam his threads. As you can see, even Gaga has specifically addressed this issue because it’s not the first time she’s seen her fans bashing him.

this isn't unique to ed. they bash demi on demi threads, they bash selena on selena threads, they bash beyonce on beyonce threads. this isn't a gay issue, it's stan culture.

This. Don’t frame it as a shallow gay culture thing, that’s bordering on being a little ignorant. It’s stan culture. People here had no issue with him until he became the biggest artist on the planet, and that’s how other massively successful artists are treated here too. 
Im not excusing it, because obviously that’s awful and toxic, and something that some people here need to work on (I have been guilty of it in the past, but I have at least grown up from when I was 15...), but this is the reason. Nothing else.

Ok, I generalized the gay community of stan culture to get my point across. You’re right, I was wrong. Now let’s all take advise from the person we all stan and stop being such assholes to kind people. We should all agree that stan culture is incredibly toxic and needs to change, because we are normalizing bullying and hatred for the sake of a laugh. Whether it’s gay culture or stan culture, it’s still an issue.

I think public perception started to shift (especially in stan culture) when he started boasting about being able to make any song a #1 song on a radio interview or something like that, which sounded extremely self-centered but I can't recall the exact details.

edit: I think he said he was the male Adele or that he sold more than Adele or something
