GagaSine 7,464 Posted December 20, 2020 Share Posted December 20, 2020 Just a warning, obviously spoilers will be mentioned Wondering what everyone thought of the ending of The Mandalorian! Personally I wasn’t particularly impressed, I thought bringing back that classic character was pretty unnecessary and didn’t really add anything to the story, and the CGI was creepy and unpleasant looking (also why does he still look so young while Boba Fett is so old? Are you telling me Boba Fett was 50 during Return and developed a beer gut in like 10 years?). It also once again makes the Star Wars universe seem so small, they really rely on previous characters and classic iconography like a crutch instead of exploring this huge sci fi universe in new and creative ways. Maybe I was expecting too much but the ending felt weak and unsatisfying, they set up all this mystery and intrigue and none of it paid off in a satisfying way. I know most people loved it and were emotionally moved though (which makes me feel like I’m going crazy/an alien or something lol)! What did you guys think? There was the movie episode where Anikin pre-darth vader killed all the youngling jedi that were at that school. I was thinking Obi-Wan with the robe, so young Luke was a bit of a shock. I felt the episode was great for the small group of powerful characters that the show has been assembling. The plot made sense and provided a satisfying ending. The "good" bounty hunter who could be King, but never aspired to be. I also really get the feeling that the Mandalorian was untrained but powerful with "the force". The cgi was creepy though but I kinda bought it because the X-wing and the green blade had already made me jump in my seat. I was 20 something when the 1rst SW movie came out and I lost interest in anything SW after the first trilogy until the animated series of this last decade. So that last ep of Mando 2 was a nice cherry on the cake after the return of Bobba, Bo-Katan and Ahsoka in live-action. It makes sense but I’m just annoyed that every single Star Wars property ever has to tie in directly into the original trilogy. I remember reading the comics in the 90s and it felt like there was more world building and creativity and unique stories than anything they have made since (I didn’t watch any of the clone wars cartoons bc I thought they would be too childish). It is Star Wars universe, hence, every canon moves, games , books, and TV shows, and every canon characters showing up in any shows fills the gap for their own story line. mrdurrs 203 Posted December 20, 2020 Share Posted December 20, 2020 I honestly don't think too much about lore and all that, I just watch it for the entertainment, so I very much enjoyed it (and was very much bawling my eyes out during those last 5 minutes before credits). Lemme say I know were you come from BUT I don’t think the mandalorian relies on previous characters at all. There is a difference between relying and a small cameo. Actually The Mandalorian is for me the first “spin off” that doesn’t rely at all on previous characters for me. I saw THAT persons cameo as a emotional cameo for fans but also as a good part to complete the story. There aren’t a lot of Jedi masters out there, so bringing back this person actually makes a lot of sense within the story. Personally I felt really emotional. Also his appearance wasn’t the big emotional ending after all. It was Mando saying goodbye to Grogu for me. Which shows again, that the mandalorian created a deep emotional bond between the original characters of the show and the viewer. Also for an open end it is pretty “closed”. That’s something that just a few shows achieve and is a hard thing to accomplish. To me it was the perfect ending!
