Well Shawn...why does THIS rumor cause you so much grief if you're not gay? I too was bullied in school and called gay but perhaps there was something others kids noticed that I was too naive or ashamed to admit myself at the time...

I dont think it's inappropriate to notice his voice, mannerisms, etc when he's a public superstar and in a field of extreme criticism...

The fact he admits to having to "check himself" and act a certain way still doesn't help much with WHAT you are trying to "tame"...

If he's bi...ok...if he's gay...ok...if he's straight...ok...point is...your sexuality is your business but in the public spotlight...unfortunately these people don't get to pick and choose what people say about them. He seems to have the same answer every interview and it adds to the rumors...

I definitely think he's same-sex attracted but it's cringe for (straight) journalists to be so insensitive as to get him to talk about it, because they have no idea how it feels to keep those feelings inside. He'll address this when he's ready.

Why are his feelings creating such a negative response in so many here...
It’s awful that so many are essentially denying or undermining his right to respond to how others keep pushing labels on him. He is entitled to his own feelings and posting crap about it is very problematic and abusive. I hope he never Googles these type of discussion boards.

I think he is quite clearly (and bravely) elaborating how it wasn’t easy growing up, exploring sexuality and building identity while being bombarded with labels and expectations. I can’t begin to understand how frustrated he might feel with all this speculation because he is clearly a sweetheart, kind,  has good manners, and very focused on his job as a musician. You can hear that he is careful with his words because he is trying hard to not offend anyone who might be listening.

Disgusting comments, as usual. For one damn second, stop and think outside yourself. No one gives a **** if you think he is taking this too hard. No one gives a **** if you think that is just "part of the business." No one gives a **** if Shaun is possibly closeted. 

He CLEARLY is saying that he has faced being mislabelled for YEARS of his life, and that has affected him. Whether you think that's a big deal or not, to HIM it is, so stop trying to diminish his feelings. Stop being such bullies. Let the man deal with what he has dealt with. 
Newsflash, we are all individuals and all of us have things that affect us differently. That's the beauty of being a human being. You might not be able to rationalize how someone is feeling BECAUSE YOU AREN'T THEM.

If anything, this has hopefully taught people to stop assuming peoples' sexualities based on their actions. Ya'll want toxic masculinity to stop? Well stop calling straight guys gay when they are soft spoken, delicate, and not aggressive. Just let people act the way they act.

While yes all male celebrities go through some sort of a sexuality speculation phase, nobody has the right to doubt how much it affected Shawn to be mislabeled. Y'all dragged him for filth when he referred to Sam Smith as "he" not "them" and y'all sure would go crazy if someone mislabeled you as well as you the smallest thing gets you offended.

I don't wanna go personal, I don't wanna defend Shawn either but why did everyone on here go crazy and got offended when Shawn made a mistake by referring to Sam Smith as "he" not "them?" Pretty sure there were more important things to be offended over, too, right?

He needs to sit down with a gay journalist who will be up front and ask him the right questions. If there’s no air to clear, then he’d have no issue with doing that. The right questions being “Are you into guys at all?” “Are you bi?” Cause it’s apparent that “Are you gay?” ain’t cutting it.
