LilyLark 9,966
ROM was a much bigger hit than ARUTW in the US....#1 debut and I believe it was in the top ten for 4-6 weeks and remained in the top 40 for several months. It didn't have the legs of some of Gaga's songs but in terms of the debut #, pure sales, and the first few weeks on the chart it's arguably one of her biggest hits (obvs. not as big as Shallow, BR, etc.) in the US. That said, from what I understand ARTUW had massive streaming #s outside of the US and charted in some countries. *Also, if you leave sales #s aside...as other posters said ROM has topped or been in the top 10 of many "best songs of 2020" lists...which is kind of a big deal & will probably help its numbers a bit. I truly believe it would have been huge in the US had they released it as a single here. Everyone loves it. Like the way they like Adele songs. But ROM was damn huge too. And now it's topping many of these best of the year lists. It's in the pantheon for sure. ARUTW is also one of my favorite songs. I feel like in terms of songwriting, it's her strongest song. Although I love some of the individual lines from Replay the best. I actually think that's kind of a sign of how much freedom Interscope gives her (although I suspect she has to put out an album every 2-3 years). As you said, ARUTW could have been a massive hit in the US and Shallow was a massive hit...ROM also did quite well. If Interscope controlled her every move, I feel like she'd have put out an album that was like 100% ARUTW songs or 100% ROM style songs.

Reality 73,745
ROM is bigger, but it's also not like a massive hit. ARUTW could've done so much more, I wish they promoted it more. ᗰᗩYᕼEᗰ || 🦇👹🖤
Killa 16,393
Well rom was promoted at least on a big stage, vmas. It had another singer, whose really big name. Was hyped a bit. Arutw.. What did it have. Wasnt even sent anywhere. Rom had a bit of success, but was heavily talked in media. There were playlists. Thrre was a big video I dont consider it a hit, its a moderate hit. But a weak one. The other at least was a hit in some countries
