I honestly expected much higher sales. With wonder and positions I believed that it was a natural fall for the artists but seeing now with Taylor, apparently the bundle rule really affected debuts. 300k is still a lot for any artist out there tho, she still slayed right and left and considering it’s her second album in such a short period of time, it's an even better scenario. If it's true about the physical copies not being available this week, it will be interesting to see her stability in the following weeks when it's released.

folklore sold a bit over 600K it’s first week with physical and digital sales so 350K on digital and streaming alone is right on par.

Are there any sites that predicts the total daily/weekly streams for albums on Apple Music and other streaming platforms?

846k to 300k? Evermore only had 14M less streams. Evermore will probably end with more idk. But also its only been one day?

When will Gaga realize that a surprise release is so much more effective than spending time and money promoting the lead and album just for it to leak a week before release date and ruin everything.

True but still she doesn't have the same power as Taylor even though she's more interesting and unique...

The downside is that it's harder to have a big hit out of it.

It's risky because if the album doesn't do quite as well as u were hoping for the era is basically dead. Ur not getting any hits to try and save it or bring life to it

I agree with those that say a surprise release would be a strong strategy for Gaga.

I hear what you and @Jose P are saying, but from a label’s perspective, a TON of money was spent ensuring Rain on Me would be a hit.

Gaga has a very loyal fanbase that so happens to be one of few that actually purchases music. Even C2C opened at number one. If, like Taylor, you are an artist that can move physical copies, then to mimic this “evermore” release strategy is smart.

You grab the surprise flurry upfront in streams, and then count on the fans to buy the album moving forward which gives it the image of longevity. Now that bundling is dead, the move for these artists is to make actually purchasing music feel like a special thing, be it digital or physical. And, through it all, the label only has to fund *one* music video. Less money spent on promotion equals bigger profits for all.

i mean, I would have bought Chromatica even after I had legally streamed it for the first week. Wouldn’t have you?

A surprise Gaga album not doing well? Ha! I’d bet my last meat bandage on it being her biggest first weeks sales album since BTW.

The Stupid Love leak is a prime example. Everyone flipped over it! It would have been even bigger if it had been an official surprise release.

I mean, with physical copies coming in two weeks, and signed ones after, the album will be no. 1 until February :trollga: how many female albums have spent over two months at no. 1 in the last years?
