Y'all are taking things a little too literally... Of course the original films still exist - thank God for that - I'm simply voicing my (valid) opinion about Disney completely selling out and sinking into an abyss of blandness. If you want to remake something, do it differently, but don't make it worse, that's all I'm saying. Their legacy deserves better.

Their remakes have been huge box office successes and have been mostly critical lauded bar a few so I don’t really get your argument. Cuz they’re not really facts. When you say they’re selling out it’s merely an opinion. Cuz all that they’re doing is remaking classic animated movies into live action. Which is great cuz I love love action, as do many others, just look at the returns 🤷🏽‍♂️

Since when are box office successes necessarily good movies? :ohwell: I'm glad you and others enjoy those films, but my facts are slightly different: critics overwhelmingly agree on the fact that those films are all show but no substance and, though having their technical merits, add absolutely nothing to the originals and are just blatant money-grabs.

Unless Disney proves me they actually have something to say with those films, I'll keep being extremely cautious about new releases. Popular cinema should always be the perfect mix between entertainment and art, which Disney embodied back when it was still run by artists - nowadays, Disney has become nothing more than a bank. You see it through remakes, but also spawning franchises. To me, they have become the death of cinema and entertainment.

I don't like the cast, and the live action remakes in general, but maybe I'll be surprised, if I'll watch it.

I wish Disney would save all the money they spend on those live action projects, and use it for actually good animated movies like Coco and Brave.

River

tbh the most random cast ever and I'm not so fan of it, they could have just go with full black cast, Queen Latifah could be a great Ursula for example.

I could play the moderator, I can ban you, die sis.

Disney's been racist since forever, them casting Halle as Ariel looks somehow forced.

First of all, the story of the Little Mermaid takes place somewhere near Denmark, that's why she's a redhead, so makes no sense.

We need more shows with black leading roles and black people in production, not forcing ideas where they don't neccessarily belong.

But what to expect from people who made Mulan a magical being.

It's a story about half fish beings, skin color does not matter. Actors need to only have top part of the human body.

Yeah you know, however it was based on a danish fairytale, I've also read that in Disney's animated movie Eric's kingdom was set somewhere near Italy, and that this was stated in a behind the scenes feauture. A lot people deny this possibility, but there are definitly some references in the movie that fit with Italy. For example the architecture is south european. A lot of the characters have a bit of a tan and dark hair. The maid's name was Carlotta which is an Italian name, and some more. I found a post on instagram in where someone explaines this possibility further:

You missed the point, I don't mind Ariel being black, I mind Disney's intentions.

Black people got snubbed so many times and they still do, this is just a distraction from the real problems in a 'give them cake' manner.
