My god you people :rip: I said reported jokingly and it wasn't my intent to be rude. It's just that people here in GGD for some reason always come for the NBs. You should take a look at the thread that was made when Sam Smith announced their pronouns. It's a clusterfvck of people denying their validity. And I understand how people can get confused and may need time to adapt, I never dragged Shawn and although I believe it's not a good look I wouldn't cancel him for such a non-event either. I wrote a comment earlier trying to clear things up. I wrote reported to be sassy but my worries were real and based on people having a hard time coming into terms with the existence of people outside the gender binary, something that I've seen time and time again here.

i'm genderfluid and i agree. people need time to adapt, but as you said previously, everyone knows sam's pronouns. i find it highly unlikely that someone as big as shawn wouldn't know about this huge situation that arose when sam announced their pronouns. it's something that was discussed on the news, even outside of entertainment columns. even then. i do think we need to normalise checking someone's pronouns before you speak to, speak about or interact with them if you don't already know them, since it's respectful and polite, and especially someone famous when you're presenting or reading something in public.

A practical example of how using made-up pronouns only makes conversation more difficult. And the fact people riot whenever you mistakenly use pronouns is ridiculous :madge:

Are you kidding me with this transphobic mess? :awkney:

Perhaps you'd feel differently if someone said your sexuality was "made-up"?

i mean, this is blatantly transphobia. they/them pronouns have psychological and medical backing from a research perspective, and its been shown that people can have gender dysphoria if not referred to by their preferred pronouns, in fact, it's one of the most common causes of dysphoria. nothing here is made up. it's real. and it's valid.

also nobody here is actually saying that shawn is an awful person who deserves to be punished. they're just saying that it was a mistake, that shouldn't have happened, and could've been easily avoided with a little research, to avoid being hurtful or misgendering someone.

The way he unintentionally mispronounced Sam and some of y'all act as if he burned all of the worlds' trees :saladga: . Calm down, as long as he apologizes it's not THAT big of a deal.

Also, this pronoun thing is relatively new and people are still used to only have he/she. Give us time to adopt, please :interestinga:

Not really.   The pronoun thing is relatively new, people are used to looking at someone and calling them he or she.  If he wants his being non binary to be referenced in his pronouns, cool, sure.  But it's not really a big deal if someone just doesn't know or forgets.  It's not like Shawn Medez is someone looking for trouble or wanting to demean someone for using by wrong pronoun.

No it’s like when you meet someone and you read their name wrong

They tell you the correct pronunciation

And you just keep calling them the wrong name

please enlighten me to death

there are non-binary users here, and i'm sure some of them are reading and/or contributing to this thread. it isn't all just gays who are offended by this. many actual non-binary people are upset. at least the ones that y'all haven't run off of this site with pitchforks.

I thought fcking LADY GAGA'S fansite would be knowledgeable about social issues

But after the mess with people not understand racial bias and now anyone asking for nb people's pronouns to be respected being overwhelmingly LMAOed...

I realize this is a site for white gays doing what white gays do best. Get all riled up when they hear the word ******* but deny any other form of oppression.

Calling people SJWs is not as nearly as clever of a comeback as you think it is

Would rather be a SJW over an ignorant **** any day of the week :madge:

I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

Dua Lipa actually did the same thing recently in an interview. :smh:  I didn't notice anyone call her out for it, but as I said earlier I'm sure it was an honest mistake and there was no ill intentions behind it.

I wouldn't agree because you imply it's being done on purpose.  Someone calling Caitlyn Jenner "he", that's different.  Or even calling Shawn Mendez a "she" to reference the homosexual rumors, or to mock his masculinity.

I would say it's more like spelling Shawn "Sean" - a common mistake.

I'll say the one thing about Sam Harris is that they bring attention to the issue, because people need to be educated that people who look like an obvious he or she are sometimes non-binary.

I just can't agree with getting offended when it's more likely just a mistake.
