It's the best we have, vaccines usually take years to come out. Yes, it doesn't stop you from spreading it so it's not a miracle cure, but it will save lives and enable people to get back to normal. If enough people are vaccinated then we can start to live life again. You don't need to eradicate the virus, you need to bring it down to a level where millions are not dying from it anymore. We still get the flu and people still die from the flu, there is a flu vaccine, but it's effective enough that the numbers aren't pandemic level... There was an unlimited budget and all vaccines would be available this quickly if that was the case. So it's safe and it's tested, there were just no funding issues.
